Harvard led an 85 year long study into relationships and what keeps people together with some interesting results.
Long marriages last because of:
1. The ability to live with someone’s quirks and not try to change them. Acceptance is the foundation.
2. Those that let conflicts go instead of digging into every detail, fighting to prove who was right. Those who allowed things to remain unsaid lasted longer. Peace matters more than winning.
3. Strong marriages are when couples recover quickly after a fight. There was always one partner who made peace first, even if they felt right, sacrificing ego for calm.
4. ‘The world against us’ mindset, standing together against everything else. Shared battles made them unshakeable.
5. The ability to wait out a crisis and not make rash cuts when there were moments on the edge, showing patience when it feels like the end.

Gatecrashed an evening last night! We did a special thing - spend some time thinking of a person who has lifted you up, gently nudged you forward or changed the pathway of your life for the better. And if they are still around to thank them for their inspiration and support! Xx

Just wanted to let you know that there is so much more choice for a funeral service than people might think. So if your loved one had a favourite place then (with landowners permission) why not hold the service there? Do DM me if you would like to chat about options. Xx

Direct cremations - do think twice. It is not because I am a celebrant but because I know of families who have so regretted not having a service and properly honouring their loved ones. And I have been so shocked by the advertising of these big companies that do it (although every FD will offer it) as it is preying on older people and their wish not to be any fuss for their family, even in death. A service is such an important part of the grieving process. Do think carefully. ###
