is often not very painful in the early stages, but can become very restrictive to the range of motion if left untreated. and so you can 💃

Your hip is the joint where your thigh bone meets your pelvis. Normally, the ball glides smoothly within the socket, but a problem with the ball or socket rim can interfere with smooth motion. Trauma from repetitive hip flexion damages the cartilage of the socket, leading to hip impingement or femoroacetabular impingement (FAI).

At first, you may only feel pain when you move the hip near its limits. As the condition progresses, however, you may feel pain with more subtle activities, such as sitting for a long time or walking up a hill.

Treatment for hip impingement should begin with:
Resting the affected hip… Ice will also help to ease the inflammation
Exercising as recommended by your therapist to strengthen the muscles that support the hip
Taking anti-inflammatory and pain medications when necessary

REMEMBER - Any decent therapist will work WITH you and WHAT you do with YOUR body... talk to them about the movements that cause pain and work with them to modify your technique, without sacrificing it, and without putting yourself at risk!!

occurs when inflammation in the ankle joint causes the tendons, muscles, or bones to push into the bursa or against each other, or when bone spurs form in the ankle joint, creating congestion and pinching. Impingement can occur both in the anterior (front) or posterior (back) of the ankle. and so you can 💃

Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation will help to reduce the inflammation. You can also try anti-inflammatory pain killers if necessary.

Treatment should include therapy for the range of motion problems, which will differ depending on where the impingement is... you also need ankle strengthening exercises, and exercises to help restore balance and gait.

Heel lifts, or shoe inserts can also help to alleviate the congestion in the ankle in the short-term.

is a foot condition commonly found in dancers, particularly ballet dancers. This happens when the big toe becomes permanently flexed due to an injury to the tendon controlling the toes movement. and so you can 💃

Prevention:
Keep good form with your relevés -Don’t crunch your toes to force a pointe… roll out the arch of your foot with a ball (but not to the point of pain)

Treatment:
Seek massage and physical therapy to aide in correcting technique, to decrease inflammation, and rebuild strength and length in the tissues. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to release the tendon from surrounding tissues - don’t let it get to that!
