Thai Massage, also known as Thai Yoga Massage, is a powerful massage therapy combining a number of bodywork techniques such as deep compression, stretches, the use of balms and liniments, range of motion and traction, abdominal massage and hot herbal compresses to systematically release tension and tightness from muscles, bring more mobility to joints and a greater sense of ease into the whole body.
Grounded in ancient Thai Medicine and Buddhism, the aim of Thai Massage is to release areas in the body that have become bound up or blocked creating greater feeling of relaxation and comfort.
Thai Massage treatments take place mostly over clothing and on a futon mat on the floor.
TAILOR-MADE TREATMENTS SPECIFICALLY FOR YOU
I will customise a treatment specifically to address the areas of your body that need attention using a number of techniques from the Thai medicine tradition.
This is not a sequence based treatment, but highly targeted, therapeutic and effective at relieving a range of issues including muscle tension and fatigue, back, shoulder, neck and hip pain, joint stiffness, inflexibility, poor posture or digestion and much more.
TECHNIQUES AND TREATMENTS:
SOFT TISSUE & DEEP TISSUE RELEASE
Applying pressure using hands, feet, elbows, palms, forearms and thumbs, these techniques work through the layers of the body using compression, rolling, beating and more to achieve deep tissue release.
ASSISTED STRETCHES
Using targeted, precise stretches these techniques are great at increasing range of motion in the joints, releasing bound up fascia and creating more space and mobility in the body.
These stretches are a great antidote to many hours spent at desks and in front of computers and phones, improving poor posture and creating a greater sense of ease in the body...a little bit like very mindful lazy yoga postures!
HERBAL COMPRESSES
Steam heated bundles of medicinal Thai herbs are used to massage the body to soften and release muscles making it easier to release deeply held tension.
Treatments with these compresses are delicious and deeply relaxing.
ABDOMINAL MASSAGE
The belly is often an area where we hold tension and can often be overlooked in massage treatments.
Deeply relaxing and nurturing, using oils and compresses, abdominal massage will work through the layers to release muscular tension as well as affect organs to help with a range of issues including poor digestion, menstrual pain and back pain.
I am a Thai Massage therapist and yoga teacher living in the beautiful city of Brighton. Before beginning to practice Thai Massage I had been working the usual office life, but became dissatisfied with the sedentary lifestyle this entailed and started to look for ways to get away from the computer and out into the world of real things and real people.
ABOUT ME:
In 2010 I discovered yoga and this changed my entire outlook on life. I began to practice regularly and saw the benefits this had to my physical body, but perhaps more importantly, to my energy and mental state. As I became more and more interested in yoga and the healīng arts I wanted to share all of the benefits I had gained with as many people as possible.
This led me to train in Thai Massage firstly with the Sussex Thai Massage school and Christine Townley in 2014.
Since 2018 I have been studying under the expert guidance of Natasha de Grunwald of the London Institute of Thai Massage. These studies have been an absolute game changer in how I perform my treatments. Grounded in Thai Medical Theory, Buddhism and ancient Thai healing techniques, my treatments now are focused, therapeutic and able to make genuine shifts in how my clients feel in their bodies.
My aim in all my massage and yoga teaching is to give people the opportunity to become aware of the incredible miracle of their own bodies, something that is easy to forget in our busy world. One of the best descriptions of Thai Massage I have heard is that it is the 'physical application of loving kindness' and this is the attitude I bring to all my treatments. My quest is to make people feel good in their own bodies so they are better equipped to deal with life and are ultimately more happy, healthy and peaceful human beings.
