Really interesting study by Collings TJ , Bourne MN , Barrett RS , Meinders E , GONçALVES BAM , Shield AJ , Diamond LE looking into Gluteal Muscle Forces during Hip-Focused Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Exercises.

Things to note:
1. Side plank has the highest glute med activation out of the exercises tested
2. Split squat had the highest glute max activation when working at 12RM, closely followed by single leg Romanian deadlift and single leg hip thrust.
3. Highest activation for glute min was the side plank and 12RM single leg Romanian deadlift.

Blown Away. What a morning. Strong women showing up to workout: you came, you achieved, you inspired!

Thank you for always being the cheerleader everyone needs in their life. The community you’ve created is SO much more than exercise. It’s the support we give each other every class through the highs and lows of parenting and life. It’s the smile you bring and the infectious energy that means you always leave Ubermummies feeling better than you started.

To quote one of my all time hero’s Serena Williams: ‘Every women’s success should be an inspiration to another. We’re strongest when we cheer each other on.’

Side plank progressions. Quite often you’ll find me giving out this exercise to patients as part of their rehab. Brilliant for strengthening the core as well as glutes, and shoulders. Adding in the leg lift in level 3 is super challenging but amazing for glute med strengthening.

2 years in the making and I can call myself a BodyMaster Method Practitioner. Since having 3 children and a stop-start return to work from each maternity leave, this training has been the most brilliant recap and knowledge builder. Calf rehab progressions. Great for those recovering from a calf strain or if you’re looking for some strength and conditioning for the achilles/calf muscles.

1 - Double leg isometrics to start loading through the calf muscles.
2 - Move onto single leg once pain free.
3 + 4 - Include soleus strength too, this is done with the knees bent to to take out the gastrocnemius.
5 + 6 - Start adding load: calf raise on a step which works into a bigger range of movement, then finally holding a weight and slowly increase as the calf complex builds strength.
