Today we celebrate International Women’s Day.
A moment to honour women’s achievements and continue the journey toward equality.
This year the United Nations theme is
“Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”
Calling for collective action to remove the barriers that still limit the lives and opportunities of women and girls around the world.
The movement began in the early 1900s. In 1910, activist Clara Zetkin proposed an international day for women’s rights, and by 1911 over a million people gathered across Europe demanding fair work, voting rights and dignity for women.
Much has changed since then. Women have gained the right to vote, entered universities, stepped into leadership and reshaped societies across the world.
And yet this day is also a moment to remember the women who came before us.
Many of our mothers and grandmothers lived with far fewer freedoms and choices. When we remember this, something softens, allowing us to see our mother lines with greater compassion, recognising that some wounds were shaped not only by individuals, but by the conditions women lived through.
It also invites us to reflect on patriarchal systems, ways of organising society around hierarchy and dominance. This is not about blaming men, but about bringing awareness to patterns that live within cultures, institutions and sometimes within ourselves.
When we become aware, we can begin to change them.
💫 Today, how can you honour the women in your life?
💫 How can you support equal rights and opportunities for girls and women?
Honour the women who paved the way.
Support the women beside you. Co-create a more compassionate future for the generations to come.
If you’d like to celebrate in community, join our Potluck & Water Painting Women’s Circle tonight at 6pm in Brighton.
