manual lymphatic drainage is a slow, intentional massage technique that works with the lymphatic system — the network of tiny vessels that helps clear cellular waste, excess fluid, and immune by-products. the lymph system doesn’t have its own pump like the heart, so it relies on muscle movement, breath, and manual stimulation to keep things flowing
during a session, i use light, directional pressure that gently stretches the skin to open lymph pathways and guide fluid toward lymph nodes, where it’s filtered, and then back into the bloodstream near the heart. once lymph re-enters circulation, it helps move immune cells throughout the body, supporting overall immune function and keeping things balanced
the touch is intentionally delicate — heavy pressure can actually compress those tiny vessels, while lighter, rhythmic strokes encourage them to open and transport fluid more effectively
people often notice reduced swelling, a feeling of “deflation” in puffy areas, and a calmer nervous system afterward. it’s great for supporting recovery after workouts, easing bloating and water retention, or just giving your body a nudge when everything feels a bit sluggish. think of it as helping your internal housekeeping team do its job more easily, one gentle rhythm at a time 🍃
