I'm Camilla, I teach Beginners Hatha Yoga Classes in Hollingbury and Preston Park, Brighton. I have been teaching for the past 16 years and hold a Senior Yoga Teacher 500 hour credential with the Yoga Alliance. My classes are tailored for complete beginners or for those returning to practice and who prefer a slower pace. You'll learn the traditional and foundational hatha yoga postures, along with mindful movement practices that help to mindfully stretch and tone the whole body, ease muscle tension and tightness and calm the mind, bringing you back to balance. We practice breathwork and relaxation techniques to help release stress, calm the nervous system and promote inner well-being. It's been great to see everyone back at Beginners Yoga for our New Year January classes. This term is all about strengthening our core.

When our core feels strong it supports us from the inside out.

Our core consists of the superficial and deeper abdominal muscles, spinal muscles, our diaphragm and gluteal muscles.

Strengthening our core through yoga gives us the opportunity to move slowly with awareness, deepening our connection with our body and to our self.

A strong core stabilises and protects the spine, helps prevent injuries and gives us a sense of inner confidence and strength.

Happy New Year Everyone!! As I was reading the responses from a survey I sent out to people who attend my yoga classes, it was very apparent to me how beneficial coming to a regular yoga class is for so many reasons - to feel physically better, to have a clearer relaxed mind and to be practicing in a community group class. Showing up every week takes discipline, and it's one that pays off.

"I absolutely love coming to your class, Camilla, you are a great find as a yoga teacher. Your pace and voice are wonderful.
As I get older with a touch of arthritis in my hands and wrists, I find the classes are very beneficial for me. I also appreciate the flexibility it gives me in my back and hips. And I need to keep up with the balances so I don’t fall over in the shower ;) I have been doing yoga since I was 18 and now in my 70s, I think it should be on the NHS !! Lyn xx"

Reading how people feel coming to class and the benefits they receive makes me really grateful to be sharing yoga.

Health & Immunity Benefits of Community Yoga -

Autumn is here! The leaves are falling and the yellows and orange colours are becoming stronger. I do love this time of year.

As we begin to transition into the cooler months, it's a good time to think about how we can support our health and immunity.

Mindful movement in yoga through gentle stretching and slow, intentional movements that help with strength and stability — do so much more than keep the body feeling good. When we move with awareness, breathe deeply, and stay present in each moment, we activate powerful systems of healing and balance within the body.

Moving mindfully helps to:

Reduce stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, which can weaken the immune response when elevated for long periods.

Boost circulation and lymph flow, allowing the body to move nutrients and immune cells where they’re needed most.

Improve sleep quality, helping the body restore and repair.

Lower inflammation, supporting long-term immune health and energy.

Enhance mind–body awareness, so you can listen to what your body truly needs — rest, nourishment, or movement.

When movement becomes a form of mindfulness, it strengthens not just muscles and joints, but your resilience and vitality from the inside out. Each mindful breath and gentle stretch supports your body’s natural ability to heal, protect, and thrive.

When we come together to move, breathe, and unwind, something special happens — it’s not just our bodies that feel better, but our whole sense of well-being. Yoga helps to ease tension, improve circulation, and gently strengthen the body, while mindful breathing calms the nervous system and supports a healthy immune response.

But perhaps the most powerful part is the connection — sharing practice with others, feeling supported, and knowing you’re part of a kind, welcoming community. That connection lifts the spirit, reduces stress, and reminds us we’re not alone on our journey to feeling healthy and balanced.

We've had another lovely 6 weeks of community yoga Monday nights at The Old Boat Community Centre in Hollingbury, especially now we've moved into the larger hall with the cosy wall heaters ! So looking forward to starting again for our Autumn classes in October 🍁🍂🍁
