Weight Loss Struggles - Let’s Talk About What’s Really Going On
Why can losing weight feels so hard, even when you’re motivated? It’s not always about eating too much or not moving enough. Sometimes, the reasons are much deeper and more personal. Here are just a few things that might be holding you back:
● Lack of self-love: If you struggle to truly love yourself, it can be tough to stick with anything long-term.
● Feeling insecure in your body: Anxiety about what being thinner might bring can stop you from making changes.
● Feeling unsafe when skinny: Maybe the last time you were lean, you received unwanted attention, and that memory makes it feel unsafe to lose weight again.
● Not feeling worthy: Sometimes, deep down, you might secretly believe you’re not worthy of feeling beautiful or strong.
● The “big b***d” belief: Repeating to yourself that you’ve always been big b***d and that it just “runs in the family.”
● Comfort eating when sad or lonely: Reaching for chocolate (or other comfort foods) for that quick dopamine hit when you’re feeling down.
● Past relationship pain: The last time you were thin in a relationship, you were cheated on, and you don’t want to risk feeling that hurt again.
● Food as joy after loss: Eating became your source of joy after losing someone or something important, and it’s hard to let go of that comfort.
● Childhood conditioning: Maybe you were taught as a child to always finish everything on your plate, even if you were full, or you were rewarded with treats for being “good.”
● Food as stress relief: When you’re stressed or angry, food is the most natural and comforting distraction.
● Disassociating with food: Sometimes you reach for food just to shut off, switch to something mindless, and avoid focusing on what really needs your attention.
These patterns can be complicated, buried deep in our subconscious, and can cause us to self-sabotage just as we start to make progress.
The good news? You absolutely can rewire your brain to move towards your weight loss goals and break through those hidden blocks that keep pulling you back to your old habits.
