Dear Yogi’s Namaste one and all, blessings of love, light and gratitude to you all.

This months quote is one of my favourites. Beautifully capturing the magical and transformative power of kindness.

The meaning of this festive statement is that acts of kindness much like a fresh blanket of snow, can transform any situation or person it comes into contact with.

Snow covers up harshness, imperfections, and the mundane with a clean, and soft beautiful layer. Similarly, kindness has the power to soften difficult circumstances, heal hurt and trauma, and bring grace and beauty to everyday life and human interactions.

It suggests that a kind perspective or action makes the world a better and more pleasing place to live. Acts of kindness can be life changing, being kind heals even the deepest wounds, not just for the receiver but also the giver.

So let everything you do come from a place of kindness, if you yourself could do with some kindness but have never felt it’s embrace, then don’t wait for it to come to you, begin by being kind to others, let others feel the blanket of kindness. You yourself may never feel it, but trust me, your life will have changed immeasurably for giving it out. Choose kindness, it will always be the right thing to do.

Blessings, stay humble, always be kind, keep breathing deeply, own your own peace and joy, if you never try you’ll never know, namaste.

This month we’ll be firing you up with Vrischikasana. Scorpion pose. The Sanskrit word “vrischik” means scorpion and “asana” means pose. This posture resembles the scorpion with its tail arched over its back, ready to strike.

The head, which is the seat of knowledge, is also the seat of pride, anger, hatred, jealousy, intolerance, and malice. These emotions are more deadly than the poison which the scorpion carries in its sting. The yogi, by stamping on his own head with his feet, attempts to eradicate these self-destroying emotions and passions. Thus seeking to develop humility, calmness, tolerance, and to becoming free from ego. Subjugation of the ego leads to harmony and happiness.

🦂Benefits of scorpion pose include:
🪡strengthens the muscles
🪡tones the abdomen
🪡enhances breathing capacity
🪡improves balance
🪡promotes awareness, concentration, and focus
🪡calms the mind

How to:

• Start in Forearm Stand. Press firmly into your forearms and keep elbows shoulder distance apart.
• Bend your knees. Let your feet drop toward your head.
• Shift your chest forward. Move hips slightly over shoulders to create the backbend.
• Lower the feet toward your head. Keep core engaged and shoulders strong.
• Come out by straightening legs back into forearm stand, then lowering down safely.

Tip: Use a wall for support and warm up your shoulders + back first.

This month we are featuring Ardha Chandra Chapasana. Sugarcane pose. The Sanskrit word “ardha" means half, “chandra” means moon, “chapa” means bow “asana” means pose.

This is a variation of Half Moon Pose with a little extra quad stretch, and symbolises a bow and arrow, or the flexibility of a sugarcane stalk. The mythology behind this posture is linked to the deities Lalita and Ganesh. Lalita wields a sugarcane bow and arrow-tipped flowers. The sugarcane bow symbolises the duality of our own nature, the ability to be pleasant and sweet, but also fierce and strong when needed.

One story recounts Ganesh falling after getting a fright and his sweets scattering, leading to him grabbing them while trying to maintain balance. This symbolises overcoming obstacles and finding balance amidst challenges. keep both these stories in mind when trying this posture.

The benefits of sugarcane pose include:
🌸tones your ankles, legs, hips, buttocks, and abdomen.
🌸stretches groin, calves and quads.
🌸promotes balance, full body coordination and awareness.

“Sattva is regarded as buoyant and illuminating. Its corresponding colour is white. Rajas is stimulating and mobile. Its corresponding colour is red. Tamas is inert and concealing. Its corresponding colour is black. As qualities of Nature, they all (even sattva guna) essentially represent a limiting aspect, as the Bhagavad Gita (14:6-8) affirms: “Sattva binds through attachment toward knowledge and happiness; rajas binds the incarnated spirit through attachment toward action, and tamas binds through negligence, indolence and sleep. Sattva is regarded as buoyant and illuminating. Its corresponding colour is white. Rajas is stimulating and mobile. Its corresponding colour is red. Tamas is inert and concealing. Its corresponding colour is black. As qualities of Nature, they all (even sattva guna) essentially represent a limiting aspect, as the Bhagavad Gita (14:6-8) affirms: “Sattva binds through attachment toward knowledge and happiness; rajas binds the incarnated spirit through attachment toward action, and tamas binds through negligence, indolence and sleep.”

Sattva Guna
The word sattva comes from the Sanskrit root sat, meaning “existence.” Sattva guna represents the principle of harmony and balance. The Bhagavad Gita (14:6) characterises sattva guna as “immaculate, illuminating, without ill.” However, sattva, by virtue of being one of the gunas, also has a binding effect—it can cause attachment to joy and knowledge.

When tranquillity, light, happiness, purity, calmness, harmony, kindness, forgiveness, patience, and compassion predominate in the mind, we call it sattvic. People with sattvic minds love tranquillity, a simple life, higher thoughts, the study of spiritual books, philosophical discussions, concentration, meditation, and the company of spiritual beings. Spiritual aspiration, noble ideals, empathy, love, devotion, inspiration, and genius—all these pertain to the sattvic mind. A sattvic mind is always steady and finds delight internally. This purity of the mind always brings about purity of the Heart.”

Dear Yogi's Namaste one and all, blessings of love, light and gratitude to you all.

This month's quote is an honest expectation of life. You will get knocked down, for sure, one hundred percent, will you have the courage to keep getting back up again? Setbacks and failures are a natural part of life, but it urges us not to let these experiences define us or extinguish our spirit.

Instead, we could definitely argue that the opposite is true. we should be viewing defeats as temporary obstacles and maintain a determination to overcome them, learning from each experience and continuing to strive and thrive. Accepting them as part of the journey.

The crucial distinction here is that while encountering defeats is unavoidable, being defeated is a choice. It highlights the importance of maintaining hope, determination, and, most importantly, cultivating a positive mindset, even when all seems lost and dark.

Just as we might go to the gym and work our physical muscles, we must work to strengthen our inner resolve and self-love. Through positive affirming habits, you must learn to believe in yourself and the wonderfully kind person that you are. Don’t for a second let anyone tell you different or let them diminish your light.

Blessings, stay humble, always be kind, keep breathing deeply, own your own peace and joy, if you never try, you'll never know, namaste.

11/09/2025

This month's posture is "Hanumanasana", Split pose. "Hanuman" is an ardent devotee of Lord Rama, and "asana" means posture.

As the name suggests, this posture is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, Hanuman is well known for the heroic, gigantic leap he took from South India to the Island of Sri Lanka in the epic fable 'Ramayana', helping Lord Rama find his wife, Sita. Hanuman in this story displays his loyalty, inner strength, courage and power.

Keeping this in mind when practicing this posture, it inspires us to discover our inner strength and helps us to overcome our fears.

One of the things that asana practice gifts us is patience, just like with many things in life, opening your body and learning split pose takes time, patience and practice. When you practice this posture consistently, you are telling your body to be soft and gentle (relax). You are taking time to listen to your body's responses while making little steps towards your goal.

The benefits of Split pose include:

🍁improves flexibility of hamstrings, calves, groin, pelvis and hips

🍁opens hip flexors and increases range of motion

🍁strengthens your legs, abdomen and hips

🍁stimulates your abdominal organs and improves their function

🍁gives the feeling of grounding

🍁helps to release stress and tension

🍁develops perseverance and patience
