“Sattva is regarded as buoyant and illuminating. Its corresponding colour is white. Rajas is stimulating and mobile. Its corresponding colour is red. Tamas is inert and concealing. Its corresponding colour is black. As qualities of Nature, they all (even sattva guna) essentially represent a limiting aspect, as the Bhagavad Gita (14:6-8) affirms: “Sattva binds through attachment toward knowledge and happiness; rajas binds the incarnated spirit through attachment toward action, and tamas binds through negligence, indolence and sleep. Sattva is regarded as buoyant and illuminating. Its corresponding colour is white. Rajas is stimulating and mobile. Its corresponding colour is red. Tamas is inert and concealing. Its corresponding colour is black. As qualities of Nature, they all (even sattva guna) essentially represent a limiting aspect, as the Bhagavad Gita (14:6-8) affirms: “Sattva binds through attachment toward knowledge and happiness; rajas binds the incarnated spirit through attachment toward action, and tamas binds through negligence, indolence and sleep.”

Sattva Guna
The word sattva comes from the Sanskrit root sat, meaning “existence.” Sattva guna represents the principle of harmony and balance. The Bhagavad Gita (14:6) characterises sattva guna as “immaculate, illuminating, without ill.” However, sattva, by virtue of being one of the gunas, also has a binding effect—it can cause attachment to joy and knowledge.

When tranquillity, light, happiness, purity, calmness, harmony, kindness, forgiveness, patience, and compassion predominate in the mind, we call it sattvic. People with sattvic minds love tranquillity, a simple life, higher thoughts, the study of spiritual books, philosophical discussions, concentration, meditation, and the company of spiritual beings. Spiritual aspiration, noble ideals, empathy, love, devotion, inspiration, and genius—all these pertain to the sattvic mind. A sattvic mind is always steady and finds delight internally. This purity of the mind always brings about purity of the Heart.”

Dear Yogi's Namaste one and all, blessings of love, light and gratitude to you all.

This month's quote is an honest expectation of life. You will get knocked down, for sure, one hundred percent, will you have the courage to keep getting back up again? Setbacks and failures are a natural part of life, but it urges us not to let these experiences define us or extinguish our spirit.

Instead, we could definitely argue that the opposite is true. we should be viewing defeats as temporary obstacles and maintain a determination to overcome them, learning from each experience and continuing to strive and thrive. Accepting them as part of the journey.

The crucial distinction here is that while encountering defeats is unavoidable, being defeated is a choice. It highlights the importance of maintaining hope, determination, and, most importantly, cultivating a positive mindset, even when all seems lost and dark.

Just as we might go to the gym and work our physical muscles, we must work to strengthen our inner resolve and self-love. Through positive affirming habits, you must learn to believe in yourself and the wonderfully kind person that you are. Don’t for a second let anyone tell you different or let them diminish your light.

Blessings, stay humble, always be kind, keep breathing deeply, own your own peace and joy, if you never try, you'll never know, namaste.

This month's posture is "Hanumanasana", Split pose. "Hanuman" is an ardent devotee of Lord Rama, and "asana" means posture.

As the name suggests, this posture is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, Hanuman is well known for the heroic, gigantic leap he took from South India to the Island of Sri Lanka in the epic fable 'Ramayana', helping Lord Rama find his wife, Sita. Hanuman in this story displays his loyalty, inner strength, courage and power.

Keeping this in mind when practicing this posture, it inspires us to discover our inner strength and helps us to overcome our fears.

One of the things that asana practice gifts us is patience, just like with many things in life, opening your body and learning split pose takes time, patience and practice. When you practice this posture consistently, you are telling your body to be soft and gentle (relax). You are taking time to listen to your body's responses while making little steps towards your goal.

The benefits of Split pose include:

🍁improves flexibility of hamstrings, calves, groin, pelvis and hips

🍁opens hip flexors and increases range of motion

🍁strengthens your legs, abdomen and hips

🍁stimulates your abdominal organs and improves their function

🍁gives the feeling of grounding

🍁helps to release stress and tension

🍁develops perseverance and patience

"Moving through the koshas has been compared to the act of peeling an onion or opening Russian nesting dolls. Like the dolls, the path of yoga moves progressively inward through each of the koshas.

As described in the Upanishads, the five koshas are ordered as follows:

Annamaya kosha (food) – This outermost kosha feeds the physical body and sustains the other koshas. In yoga, asanas can affect this kosha by nurturing the body.
Pranamaya kosha (energy) – This kosha regulates the flow of prana (life-force energy) through the body via the nadis (energy channels) and the chakras (intense points of energy). In yoga, both asanas and pranayama (breathing exercises) affect this kosha.
Manomaya kosha (mind) – Manomaya is the kosha that contains and controls thoughts and emotions. Various aspects of yoga practice affect this kosha. For example, meditation and alternate nostril breathing can calm the mind.
Vijnanamaya kosha (intuition) – This kosha is connected to a deeper level of intuition and inner wisdom. In yoga, meditation and meditative asanas affect this kosha.
Anandamaya kosha (bliss) – The deepest layer, this kosha contains ecstasy, love and joy. Some traditions refer to this layer as the true Self, while others believe this kosha opens the door to the true Self.
Some traditions also refer to two additional “universal” koshas: cittamaya (consciousness) and atmamaya (Self or Atman)." - Yogapedia

Dear Yogi's Namaste one and all, blessings of love, light and gratitude to you all.

This month's quote signifies the deep appreciation for the positive impact of friendship in our lives. We get by with a little help from our friends is how the song goes. Here we are celebrating true, deep, meaningful friendships, not the number of friends or followers we might have on social media.

It implies a sense of fulfilment and gratitude for the meaningful connections and relationships that lift us up, bring us joy, support, and a sense of belonging. Those relationships sometimes become deeper and more meaningful than those with our own family. All becomes possible when we have our friends beside us, and nothing is more memorable than the experiences that we create with them.

But it isn’t the number of friends that we have that matters most; if I’m able to count the number of true friends on one hand, then I have truly lived a blessed life. The bonds and relationships formed with friends are among the most valuable and rewarding aspects of our lives; they also go a long way in forming our character and personality. If you feel blessed, then give those friends a call today, remind them how much they mean to you, and spread that love.

Blessings, stay humble, always be kind, keep breathing deeply, own your own peace and joy, if you never try, you'll never know, namaste.

This month’s posture is Urdhva Dhanurasana, also known as wheel pose or upward bow pose. The name comes from the Sanskrit words urdhva, meaning upward, dhanura, meaning bow, and asan, meaning pose.

Urdhva Dhanurasana is an uplifting posture. It stimulates the nervous system and opens the heart, leaving you glowing with energy and vitality for the rest of the day. It can also be used as a tool for gaining clarity and focus. In the Yoga Sutra, Patanjali writes, “Effort toward steadiness of mind is practice” (I.13). If you apply that principle to your Urdhva Dhanurasana practice, you’ll discover a whole new layer of potential in the pose.

Once you start to feel that ease and comfort in the posture, try the one-legged version - Eka Pada Urdhva Dhanurasana.

The benefits of wheel pose include:

✨boosts energy
✨relieves back pain
✨stretches the abdomen, chest, shoulders, hip flexors and quadriceps
✨strengthens back muscles, hamstrings and glutes
✨builds confidence and opens the heart chakra
✨Improves posture
✨counteracts the effects of prolonged sitting

How to:
Begin lying on your back. Bend your knees and plant your feet hip-distance apart and parallel, directly under your knees.
Reach back to place your hands alongside your ears with your palms down and your fingers pointing toward your shoulders.
Without letting your feet or your knees splay apart, inhale, then use an exhalation to lift your hips, torso, and head enough to place the crown of your head on the mat. Do not rest any of your weight on your head.
Draw your elbows toward one another, pull your upper arms into their sockets, and start to arch your middle and upper back.
With the next inhalation, press down with your hands and feet, and lift into the pose.
Rotate your inner thighs to the floor, and reach your tailbone toward the backs of your knees. Make sure your feet have not turned out, and root down with your big toe muscles.
To deepen, walk your feet closer to your hands, keeping your forearms and shins perpendicular to the floor and parallel to each other.
To come out of the pose, tuck your chin and lower your body directly to the floor. (Don’t put the crown of your head on the floor.)
