FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE is a systems biology-based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. Each symptom or differential diagnosis may be one of many contributing to an individual’s illness.
It is an individualised, patient-centered, science-based approach by which we will work together to address the underlying causes of disease and promote wellness.
With this approach, the practitioner looks closely at the myriad of interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease.
They may find that one condition has many different causes, likewise, one cause may result in many different symptoms and ultimately many different conditions. Functional medicine targets the specific manifestation of disease in each individual.
INVESTIGATE
We investigate and address the underlying causes of disease. These usually include:
Toxin exposure
Microbes
Allergens
Nutritional status
Chronic and/or acute stress
REVIEW
We review all system imbalances:
Immune dysfunction
Digestive system issues and imbalances within the gut microbiome
Poor detoxification
Energy metabolism and reduced mitochondrial function
Hormonal dysfunction
Compromised structural integrity of the skin, connective tissue, and bones
Psychospiritual assessment.
DIGGING DEEPER
We may dig a little deeper and study the patient’s genetic make-up and how it interacts with the given environment. We will consider:
Genomics
Proteomics
Metabolomics
Epigenetics

Skin Health 💚 At Tailored Health, we look at what the underlying cause of your skin condition is, and empower you to take the necessary steps to resolve it. Our practitioners explore root causes and consider factors such as:
Is it environmental?
Are there genetic factors influencing your condition?
Do you have a food intolerance?
Is there digestive dysfunction or an imbalanced microbiome?
Are there pathogens inhibiting the healing process?
Do you have a hormonal imbalance?
Do you have immune dysregulation?
A functional medicine approach to addressing the underlying cause of your skin problem can help to clear up your skin for good.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a stern reminder not to take our immune system for granted. The fact that some individuals contract and clear the SARS–CoV-2 virus without apparent symptoms stands in sharp contrast to the damage that this virus has brought upon more vulnerable populations, including the elderly and patients with chronic conditions or cancer. While the differences in severity of infection between these populations are multifactorial, it is likely that innate immunity provides the underpinning, given its central role in the early response to viral infections. Active immunization will provide protection through antigen-specific responses by our adaptive immune system.
💙 I had my vaccine a few weeks ago.
💙However, I understand that my innate immunity is my body's front-line troops.
Ways to optimise your immune system:
💚 Eat a diet rich in whole food. Make your meals using raw ingredients and make those ingredients as colourful as possible.
💚 Exercise regulary - I recently read a study that showed that cyclists in their 50-70s had a similar T cell count to a health young adult in 20-30s (I'm 50 this year, so I will defo carry on with my 20mins of day exercise)
💚 Manage your stress - this is not just bad for your brain, but bad for your immune system too. If you feel overwhelmed with this, seek help, it's available.
💚Sleep Well - a good night's sleep is essential for a healthy immune system. Poor sleep can even alter immunity and inflammatory genes. Everyone needs 7 to 8 hours a night.
💚 You may want to consider taking supplements. A number of nutrients and essential vitamins will contribute to the normal functioning of immune system.
Its all seems’ so obvious doesn’t it. Until life gets in the way. Set yourself a goal and achieve small steps along the way. Time passes by slowly, until we realise, we have spent a whole year in Lockdown.
❤️Good luck to all the businesses opening up today.

I am obsessed with BLUEBERRIES.
💜My favourite fruit. Super high in antioxidants, phytoflavinoids, Vitamin C and Potassium. They are anti-inflammatory scientifically proven to improve blood pressure, memory and recovery.
💜Several studies suggest that blueberries and blueberry juice reduce DNA damage, which is a leading driver of aging and cancer.
💜Some experts now suggest that eating blueberries may quite literally keep the doctor away. One serving (a handful or a cup) of blueberries contains only 80 calories and contributes essential nutrients, including vitamin C, vitamin K, dietary fibre, and phytonutrients called polyphenols.
💜Would you believe that the simple act of eating blueberries may be one of the best things you can do for your cardiovascular health, insulin response, and brain health? This superfood isn't just delish, it may be the perfect food that supports your health goals.
🧡I have a handful in my smoothie every morning.
