⚠️Trigger warning…!⚠️
Did you see this recent article about two identical twins that embarked on a 12 week experiment to see which diet was best: vegan or meat based?
Can you spot which twin followed the vegan diet?
A picture tells a thousand words—you only need to look at the “after” pics to see how gaunt, tired and depressed Hugo (vegan) was...
This is yet another propaganda piece from the BBC, and mainstream media, trying to perpetuate the fear around eating meat.
“Ross’s meat-based approach raised questions about long-term cardiovascular risks”
No it didn’t…
In their own words, “his cholesterol levels remained consistent, showing no significant changes throughout the 12 weeks.”
While Hugo’s (vegan) cholesterol levels “dropped off the scale”!
Bear in mind that low cholesterol is actually associated with increasedrisk of diabetes, blood cancers, and all cause mortality [1,2,3]. The cholesterol myth/hypothesis is a whole another topic for a different day!
Also Hugo’s low cholesterol will have been one of the several reasons why he completely lost his libido, suggesting his “professionally created” vegan diet by Mindful Chef was not so professionally created at all, causing essential nutrient deficiencies that completely screwed up his hormones.
With regards to their body composition changes…
Despite the twins eating the same amount of calories per day, Hugo (vegan) lost more weight/fat than Ross (meat) because less of those plant calories are absorbed by the body—plants are simply not as bioavailable as meat and animal based foods.
So in effect, it wasn’t a calorie matched experiment at all—Hugo (vegan) ate less, because he absorbed less, so Hugo was in a bigger calorie deficit than Ross, which equalled more weight loss, it’s as simple as that.
Once the 12 week experiment concluded, Hugo (vegan) said that he,
“Now eats meat a lot more… and has a balanced diet… that’s really the key.”
If the vegan diet was so amazing then Hugo would have obviously continued it beyond the 12 weeks, but he didn’t, which says it all really.
Now run the experiment for 12 years and let’s see how Hugo’s doing by then… eeek, I dread to think!
