5 Wellbeing Tips for Spring from New Road Psychotherapy...
🌸 MAKE SPACE
The days are lengthening and buds are opening into blossom, symbolising expansion and hopeful possibility. To support our own growth, it can be helpful to create space for change or new perspectives to emerge. This might look like spring cleaning, emotional release, digital decluttering, or ticking off lingering jobs. What could making space mean for you this season?
🌿 MOVE YOUR BODY
Spring is a season of rising energy, when the natural world becomes more active after the stillness of winter. We all have different bodies and physical capacities, but if possible it can be uplifting at this time of year to bring a little more movement into your day. Whether you take a morning walk, stretch before bed, or dance in the kitchen while cooking - it all counts! What kind of movement would feel good to you?
☀️ SOAK UP THE LIGHT
It can be hard to notice at first, but from March onwards the light (and warmth!) slowly begins to return. Exposure to sunlight, especially first thing in the morning, is not only a mood booster, but also helps regulate the circadian rhythm and improve sleep. Even just 10-15 minutes spent in natural daylight, when you wake up or on your lunch break, can bring benefits. How could you get more light during the day?
💫 EMBRACE CREATIVITY
As the season of new life, spring reminds us of the power of creativity to lift our spirits and reconnect us with ourselves. ‘Being creative’ can sound intimidating (especially if you’ve ever been made to feel you’re ‘not good’ at art!) but it’s something everyone can enjoy. As well as the typical artistic activities, creativity includes things like cooking, music, writing, or coming up with ideas. How do you like to be creative?
💚 SHARE & CONNECT
This is the time of year when birds and animals start to become more active again, and we might also feel more ready for socialising or connection. If your winter was quiet or lonely, or if you’re going through a hard time, it can feel really difficult to reach out to others - but we humans are made to live in community and relationship, and even one good conversation or moment of understanding can help. What kind of connection do you need today?
