The skin is the largest organ and the most obvious marker of your inner health. When your body is overloaded with toxins, the results appear in your epidermis through dry and flaky skin, opaque appearance, pimples and blackheads and/or a rough texture.
Massaging the skin is an excellent way to detoxify and rejuvenate it. The most effective type of skin massage is dry brushing.

The benefits of dry skin brushing are numerous and extensive. Brushing the skin helps remove dead skin and encourages the renewal of new cells, thus resulting in a softer and smoother texture. Skin brushing increases circulation, it intensifies the blood flow to the skin, helps in removing toxins through the pores and also helps move the lymph through the lymphatic system to drain it.

The lymphatic system is an important part of the body's immune system, so keeping the lymph moving makes it stronger . Brushing also encourages the strengthening of the imune system due to the high blood flow in the skin. Improved circulation can also reduce cellulite, which is simply an accumulation of toxins in the fat cells that are unable to be eliminated naturally. Brushing helps break these toxins and eliminating them .

Finally, it helps to invigorate the nervous system - consisting of cells , tissues and organs; and regulates the body's reaction to stimuli - stimulating the nerve endings in the skin and improving its function. When the nerves are stimulated , it helps in toning the muscles , causing muscle fibers to move.

Brushing is the third stage of AYM and in addition to the benefits listed above it helps prepare the skin to absorb the oils used in the massage.

We live in a ‘time-poor’ society, and many of us are experiencing high levels of stress and feel overwhelmed by the pace and pressure of our busy lives. The effects of stress have a negative impact on our overall physical and mental wellbeing and leave us with an ‘out of sorts’ feeling.

Our skin contains the greatest amount of beneficial hormones, therefore, touch through massage communicates a positive therapeutic message. It balances the endocrine and nervous systems, enlivens the vital energy points (marma points) and affects literally billions of nerve endings that connect to all parts of the body including the brain and vital organs.

The Powers of Essential Oils:
Since ancient times essential oils are used to promote health, beauty and wellness.
Nowadays we are rescuing all that ancient knowledge of the science of smells, ie, Aromatherapy , as scientific research has confirmed the power and benefits of the use of essential oils and their influence on our mood, emotions, to relax or stimulate the body, mind and spirit .
Essential oils actually are very volatile substances, extracted from flowers, fruits, seeds, bark or roots by different extraction methods.
It is important to note that the effects of essential oils are closely linked to their purity. Their correct usage, especially in skin care, massages, baths and infusions, provide tissue pe*******on and directs them to the places where they will be useful. They can act both locally and through the channels of energy, nerves and meridians. When applied to the skin, essential oils regulate the activity of capillaries and return vitality to the tissues, but their application requires knowledge of the properties of each essential oil.
How they work on the body, mind and soul:
The field of holistic therapies recognizes the importance of the connection between mind and body. Plato wrote: "Healing the part should not be attempted without treatment of the whole. No attempt should be made to cure the body without the soul, and for the head and body to be healthy you must begin by curing the mind. "
Essential oils affect the mind and emotions as strongly as the physical body. The smell can influence brain areas inaccessible to mind control as well as the emotions and hormonal responses. The application of oils can bring benefits to the muscles, the nervous and lymphatic systems.
Essential oils are extremely concentrated (pure) extracts from plants. These essences are divided into three categories: those that have a soothing effect on mind and body, those which regulate and stimulate the main functions of the body and those which improve mood and tone the body . Some essential oils used on AYM are:
Eucalyptus oil (suitable for swelling and muscle pain)
Chamomile Oil (suitable for depression and headaches, this oil provides a refreshing feeling)
Lemon oil (for circulatory, acne problems and hypertension, it is stimulating and refreshing)
Jasmine oil ( used to treat dry skin and apathy, it’s calming and soothing )
Oil of Marjoram (indicated for bruising, headaches and cramps, it’s restorative)
Camphor oil (indicated to treat rheumatism, insomnia, acne and colds. It is stimulating and refreshing).

Why use oils?
The friction of hands on dry skin generates heat and pain, which in turn aggravates and damages skin and muscles. Oils are full of nutrients for the skin, they strength nerve fibres that are connected to the skin follicles.
TIPS: Upon sleeping, put a few drops of oil in the navel cavity. This helps to hydrate your whole body. Applying on the top of the neck (where the spine and the skull join) calms the nervous system and strengthens memory and vision.
