Do you suffer with plantar fasciitis or know anyone who suffers with this condition? Plantar fasciitis occurs when this ligament on the sole of your foot gets irritated and inflamed. It is the most common cause of heel pain, affecting more than 2 million people every year. Plantar fasciitis can be debilitating, and it can take a long time to get better and I’m here to help.

Shockwave therapy is the gold standard treatment for plantar fasciitis and I’m now using it in clinic here in Brighton.

Shock wave therapy is a non-invasive procedure that uses a special device to pass low-energy sound waves through the skin to the injured area. It's recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) for treating plantar fasciitis.

Please do contact me on 0771 2221333 to discuss your condition or to book an appointment.

Sports Injuries and Osteopathy

Greetings.

I’m just writing to let you know about the type of injuries that I can possibly help you with. Most of my hands on work is related to back, neck, shoulder, hip, knee and elbow pain and as an osteopath I’ve spent 4 years in full time training, learning to treat the entire musculoskeletal system. I now have over 20 years of experience at treating the body and today I’m writing about how osteopathy can help people with sports injuries.

If you’re active, sports injuries will likely occur at some point in your life. Sports injuries can range from mild strains and sprains to severe fractures, ligament tears, muscle tears and nerve damage. The severity of your injury will determine how long it takes for your body to heal naturally. However, some sports injuries require more than just time for healing – they require medical treatment from a qualified osteopath.

Osteopathy is a natural, drug-free approach to healthcare that treats the whole body rather than just the symptoms. It focuses on restoring function and improving mobility, helping you get back on your feet and doing what you love.

Osteopathy is a branch of medicine that focuses on musculoskeletal health and treatment. It’s based on the belief that your bones, muscles, nerves and organs form a harmonious whole within which every part affects every other part. As an Osteopath I use my hands to assess patients’ posture, mobility and muscle tension to determine any underlying issues affecting their health. I also use manual techniques such as massage, acupuncture, manipulation and stretching along with the relaxing cranial osteopathy to relieve pain and restore function.

The types of injuries that I can help you with include:

Muscle strains & spasms to the back
Hamstring, groin and calf strains
Ligament sprains to the ankle and wrist
Hip, knee and leg injuries e.g. e: shin splints, patella tendonitis, sciatica
Plantarfasciitis
Shoulder injuries e.g. frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tendonitis
Elbow injuries e.g. golfers elbow, tennis elbow
Neck injuries & whiplash
Headaches caused by muscle and joint tension

As a keen sportsman myself I have a passion for working with athletes of all abilities. Often injuries can be prevented, which means pro-active examination and treatment along with giving stretching and strengthening exercises to avoid pain and a lengthy recovery.

Osteopathic physical manipulation, massage and joint mobilisation increase joint mobility, relieves muscle tension and enhances blood and nerve supply to tissues thereby helping the body’s own healing mechanisms.

I’m passionate about getting you back on your feet as quickly as possible so you can enjoy being active, fit and healthy. With over 20 years of experience at treating musculoskeletal pain and further post-graduate training I can provide the following:

Structural Osteopathy for neck and back pain
Cranial Osteopathy for Babies, Children & Adults
Osteopathy During and After Pregnancy
Kinesio Sport Taping Rehabilitation
Medical Dry Acupuncture Needling
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Massage
Visceral Manipulation.

Keeping active, fit and healthy is enjoyable and I’m here to help you stay that way!

Please do contact me for any advice or to book an appointment here in Brighton. Emergency appointments available.

Hello! Now you can make 2022 the year to change your bad postural habits and I want to give you a few simple tips how you can achieve this and avoid the chance of developing musculoskeletal problems.

Many of my patients present to me with a 'forward head posture’ which often develops over quite a long time where, instead of the ears being positioned above the shoulders as the person is standing, their head has drifted forwards. This strains the muscles of the neck and shoulders but also adds tension down the muscular chains into the mid and low back leading to joint problems and chronic muscular discomfort.

Good posture is something that most of us have to work hard at achieving. Gravity, cold weather, low mood, sitting incorrectly and spending endless hours leaning forwards to look at our phones and computers can take its toll on our bodies. This can lead to neck pain, headaches, osteoarthritis, trapped nerves, disc problems, irritability and stress.

The good news is that no matter how old you are it is possible to change these postural habits:

First of all look at your work station or how you sit at your desk. Your computer or lap top should be set at the right height - position your screen so that the top of it is aligned with your eyebrows. If you're using a laptop, buy a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and put it onto books or a stand to enable you to have the screen positioned so that you are not looking up or down at it.

Do take regular breaks every 40 minutes if you spend long periods of time at the desk; move around and stretch your arms up above your head and have a walk around the office. Stretching is SO important - give that head a roll around on your shoulders and be kind to yourself!

Use a phone headset if you're often on the phone and do make sure you have a good chair with a lumbar support – a great investment.

It's worth getting these few points right and if you have any questions, please get in touch. As your osteopath - working in both Sussex and Budleigh Salterton - I can help reduce muscle tension, chronic connective tissue shortening and joint strains that lead to your pain.

I also specialise in the treatment of sports injuries and unsettled babies using the gentle craniosacral rhythm.

For an appointment or advice please fo text or call me on: 0771 2221333.

Really excited to be opening a clinic at Seachange, Budleigh Salterton. Such a beautiful little town in this gorgeous part of Devon.

Most people who come to see me as an osteopath have aches and pains that have built up over a period of time and then finally the strain becomes too much and the pain can suddenly worsen. Pain is extremely debilitating and it is my job to firstly get you out of pain but perhaps more importantly to understand the reason behind why the pain occurred in the first place and prevent your condition from reoccurring.

I have over 20 years of experience at treating the musculoskeletal system and will ensure that all treatment is tailored towards your individual needs.

Please do call for advice or an appointment on 0771 2221333.

- All linen will be removed from the treatment bench and the room will be disinfected between each patient.

- Treatment times will be spread out to ensure appropriate cleaning can take place.
