Sports Injuries and Osteopathy
Greetings.
I’m just writing to let you know about the type of injuries that I can possibly help you with. Most of my hands on work is related to back, neck, shoulder, hip, knee and elbow pain and as an osteopath I’ve spent 4 years in full time training, learning to treat the entire musculoskeletal system. I now have over 20 years of experience at treating the body and today I’m writing about how osteopathy can help people with sports injuries.
If you’re active, sports injuries will likely occur at some point in your life. Sports injuries can range from mild strains and sprains to severe fractures, ligament tears, muscle tears and nerve damage. The severity of your injury will determine how long it takes for your body to heal naturally. However, some sports injuries require more than just time for healing – they require medical treatment from a qualified osteopath.
Osteopathy is a natural, drug-free approach to healthcare that treats the whole body rather than just the symptoms. It focuses on restoring function and improving mobility, helping you get back on your feet and doing what you love.
Osteopathy is a branch of medicine that focuses on musculoskeletal health and treatment. It’s based on the belief that your bones, muscles, nerves and organs form a harmonious whole within which every part affects every other part. As an Osteopath I use my hands to assess patients’ posture, mobility and muscle tension to determine any underlying issues affecting their health. I also use manual techniques such as massage, acupuncture, manipulation and stretching along with the relaxing cranial osteopathy to relieve pain and restore function.
The types of injuries that I can help you with include:
Muscle strains & spasms to the back
Hamstring, groin and calf strains
Ligament sprains to the ankle and wrist
Hip, knee and leg injuries e.g. e: shin splints, patella tendonitis, sciatica
Plantarfasciitis
Shoulder injuries e.g. frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tendonitis
Elbow injuries e.g. golfers elbow, tennis elbow
Neck injuries & whiplash
Headaches caused by muscle and joint tension
As a keen sportsman myself I have a passion for working with athletes of all abilities. Often injuries can be prevented, which means pro-active examination and treatment along with giving stretching and strengthening exercises to avoid pain and a lengthy recovery.
Osteopathic physical manipulation, massage and joint mobilisation increase joint mobility, relieves muscle tension and enhances blood and nerve supply to tissues thereby helping the body’s own healing mechanisms.
I’m passionate about getting you back on your feet as quickly as possible so you can enjoy being active, fit and healthy. With over 20 years of experience at treating musculoskeletal pain and further post-graduate training I can provide the following:
Structural Osteopathy for neck and back pain
Cranial Osteopathy for Babies, Children & Adults
Osteopathy During and After Pregnancy
Kinesio Sport Taping Rehabilitation
Medical Dry Acupuncture Needling
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Massage
Visceral Manipulation.
Keeping active, fit and healthy is enjoyable and I’m here to help you stay that way!
