Sussex Injury Clinics were originally started back in 1990 by Kim Wurmli. It has now grown into a practice run by a partnership of likeminded therapists with a view to offering a comprehensive range of high standard treatment options to all sectors of the population. To this end, all therapists are fully qualified and registered members of professional bodies with a firm commitment to the sporting

health and welfare of local people. There is a major emphasis on educating people on injury prevention, which also includes advising children involved in competitive sport. All consultations and treatments are conducted on a one to one basis and are thoroughly assessed with an initial consultation and examination. This will be followed up by a variety of remedial/manual therapy treatments, including various mobilization techniques, soft tissue manipulation and sports/remedial massage to promote accelerated recovery which can be used for multiple issues not least of which is the relief of stress. Electrotherapy equipment may also be used if thought appropriate, such as ultrasound, interferential, TENS. Therapists are specialists in injury treatment but are also able to offer advice on general nutrition and training. Our therapists have a wealth of experience including lecturing at universities and other higher education institutions, working at premiership and elite clubs, delivering seminars and workshops locally and medical cover at events, games and matches. Patients come from a wide cross section of the population, from international and world class athletes (including Sally Gunnell), professional footballers and rugby players, national junior tennis squad members, international basketball players, channel swimmers and those with a sedentary lifestyle with ages ranging from 8 to 108. Treatments emphasize tailoring rehabilitation programmes to the individual requirements, whether sports specific, employment related or pre and post-operative care. An arrangement with Withdean gym for injury rehabilitation has proved very successful for all concerned. In addition to the treatment of back and neck injuries, there are referrals from Consultants, GPs, and Osteopaths/Chiropractors for rehabilitation exercise programmes. The results can empower a return to sport or employment and greatly improve quality of life to the extent that an operation may no longer be required.
