Join us this Sunday for an in-person screening of “Journeys to the Edge of Consciousness”; an animated trip into the psychedelic journeys of three brave pioneers of the 1950’s/60’s Aldous Huxley, Timothy Leary and Alan Watts. I have been invited to do a Q&A and support a discussion after the screening around the film’s themes and the work we do at the Institute of Psychedelic Therapy.

It's been an incredibly rich year with many seeds finding the light of purpose. Working at the Institute of Psychedelic Therapy has been the perfect antidote to the stillness and stuckness of the last two "Covid Years".

About ten months ago I took down my website for some regular maintenance, managed to break it, and finally found the time and presence required to revive it. As the world is opening up I sense my constellations practice calling me to create space for it. I have been lucky to have communities I have offered this work to in the last two years on a few occasions but the time has come to open a regular offering. It is work like this that holds the medicine for our times of polarity, confusion, dislocation and alienation.

Life is a journey of exploration and self discovery and at times we face overwhelming challenges that require us to grow in unexpected ways.

Some of us may have grown in families that have cultivated within us a sense of trust in receiving what we need from the world outside. And some of us may have grown up in families that taught us that the journey of our needs from the inside to the outside, will remain unmet and incomplete. And some of us may have had a healthy mix between the two. We carry the stories of our needs, as we graduate from our families into the relationships of the big wide world, and they define the size of our dreams, the shapes of our relationships, our strength to risk, our openness to show or know ourselves. We can hold all of the above shielded and compacted into the darkest, deepest, most inaccessible corners of our heart, from where they will continue to contract us towards life. Or, we can muster the enormous courage required to say yes to all of the above, to all the risks that opening up to them might entail, to all that saying yes to them might cost us, and let them lead us into a deeper intimacy with the fulness of life.

Many of us engage with our symptoms with the intention to ‘fix’ them. While the wish to rid ourselves from difficult experiences and achieve inner peace is understandable, these symptoms are often the very containers that hold the most significant stories of our lives. They speak of what has or hasn't happened to us. In trying to fix our symptoms, we engage with them from a place of rejection, whereas sometimes we need to grow our capacity to accept them. Our deepest wounds are not always destined to fully heal. Our deepest wounds and their painful triggers are sometimes there to pull us back into connection with our inner work, with our vulnerability and pain, with the things that compost all our other growth.

They are meant to be kept in constant connection, nourishing one another with their alternate and diverse realities. While we must never abandon the egoic self, we turn to the essential self for a deeper nourishing of our resources, preparing for our next steps, onto the ground of reality. Indeed, our spiritual, psychic and emotional health depend on periodically coming to step into this greater re-source of things, this space of greater wholeness.

There are times where moving from one to the other is immediate and seamless and other times where the egoic self can become overwhelmed by the realities and input of the essential self, requiring a long journey to support this integration. There is also a wider need for the containing power of community that can acknowledge the value and develop the trust required by such a process.

Towards Wholeness Constellations

Towards Wholeness Constellations is a page where you can find information on my regular constellation workshops and my webpage www.towardswholeness.co.uk is where you can find information on my private psychotherapy practice.

My journey in the healing professions started 16 years ago when I qualified as a registered psychotherapist. Through the years I have worked with people and deeply held issues in various private and community settings, getting to know and honor the breadth and depth of the human experience and journey. After years of practicing in traditional therapeutic ways I came across systemic family constellations and was amazed by the profound impact this work had on me and those around me.

I embarked on a two year training with The Center for Systemic Constellations (CSC) and in that time I had the priviledge to be taught by those that helped bring and develop the work in the UK: Judith Hemming, Gaye Donaldson, Chris Williams, Jutta ten Herkel and Richard Wallstein.

My background in psychotherapy and my training in constellations have come together in the workshops I run on a monthly basis in Brighton. The work never fails to move me with its ability to reach the heart and create community. Both these forces, the heart and community, are restorative sources in the world we live in today and this work supports and revitalizes them both.
