Hope
Hope is an oft used word. I hope I don't miss the the bus, I hope I'm not late for work, I hope I didn't upset him/her, I hope we'll meet in the pub tonight...
It is used so readily in the English language (well I should hope so) that sometimes you don't even notice it. Which is a shame as it is a very powerful word that has lost its gravitas.
I trust I don't bore you with this post. Notice I used the word trust instead of hope. This was an example that there are other words to be used but we have become accustomed to using 'hope' in all appropriate sentences.
Isn't it time we extended our vocabulary or how about using a bit of positive thought?
"I'm not going to miss the bus," "I'm going to be on time for work," "I must contact him/her," and "it'll be great to meet in the pub tonight."
No more hopes.
