I was recently updating a website for a client when she mentioned she was desperate for a new headshot. She wanted something fresh and professional to match her new site, but whilst I recommended a professional branding shoot, it just wasn't in the budget right now.

It reminded me of my time working on photoshoots as a makeup artist. I’ve spent years seeing exactly what happens behind the lens to make a shot work, and I knew she didn't need to stretch to a studio and a photographer to capture her magic. They say that when one door closes another door opens, but I do think sometimes you have to unlock that door yourself!

When a major client scales back and your guaranteed income dips, that confidence can take a hit. My first instinct was to look for the "safety" of an employed role. But then the reality set in.

With a husband who works away a lot of the time, no family nearby to lean on, and the relentless cycle of school runs and childcare, the traditional 9-to-5 isn't just unappealing, it’s practically impossible.

I know exactly what it’s like to juggle the demands of business, family, and life. It’s why I launched my VA business in the first place, and it’s why I’m so passionate about supporting other women who are walking the same tightrope.

Instead of continuing to panic, I used that energy to create something new: the Signature Solo website. It’s designed for the person who needs a professional home online without relying on social media platforms and their algorithms alone.

I couldn’t let today pass without sharing how much this woman means to me. Meeting Tash, becoming friends, and working together provided the pivotal push I needed to follow this path with SH Virtu.

I've spent years helping small businesses, but I got a message last week that would put the fear into anyone. A client's entire social media presence was gone. Suspended with no reason, and no warning.

It was a stark reminder of how much we rely on social media to tell our stories. We pour our hearts into these grids, but at the end of the day we're just renting the space.

The signature solo was born from that moment.
