📢 Important update to cervical screening results

From 24 March, the NHS Cervical Screening Programme will begin sending some screening results through the NHS App.

This means if your result requires a referral to colposcopy, you may receive it first as a notification in the NHS App.

📱 What you need to know:

- Your results may appear in the NHS App if you have it downloaded
- If you don’t open a result requiring further checks within 24 hours, a letter will be sent to you
- For other messages, a letter will be sent if not opened within 72 hours
- If you don’t have the NHS App, you’ll continue to receive your results by post
- You may also receive a text message to let you know you have a new notification

The NHS is continuing to move towards faster, more convenient digital communication, with most screening invitations already being sent this way.

📢 Update about Long Term Condition Reviews

We are making a change to how we invite patients for their Long Term Condition Reviews.

From now on, patients will be invited for their review during their birth month each year. This new system will help us organise appointments more efficiently and ensure everyone receives their review annually.

If you have a long term condition, please keep an eye out for your invitation during your birth month.

As such there will be a transition period and some patients may be invited earlier than usual during the first year to align with their birth month. We understand this may be frustrating if you’ve recently had a review, but we believe this change will be beneficial in the long term.

Thank you for your ongoing help and support with this and hope to see you in your birth month for your review.

Home Visit Requests are available for patients who are housebound or too unwell to attend the surgery.

If you feel a home visit is required, please contact the practice before 10:30am where possible so a GP/ANP can assess the request and plan visits safely. Before a clinician visits they will ring the patient to complete an initial assessment.

Whenever possible/appropriate, we encourage patients to attend the surgery as we have better equipment and support available here.

Thank you for helping us ensure home visits are available for those who need them most.

Meningitis can be very serious if not treated quickly.

The NHS website has all the information you need, including symptoms to look out for and when to seek medical help:
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/meningitis/

Following recent news reports of meningitis cases in the Kent area, we have received a number of queries about meningitis vaccinations.

Children are routinely offered the Meningitis ACWY vaccination in school during Years 9 or 10. If you or your child missed this vaccination and are still attending secondary school, or are aged 15–16 and home schooling, please contact the School Immunisation Team on 0300 124 5515.

If you or your child are aged 16–24 and missed this vaccination, please use the link below and select "I need a Nurse Appointment"
https://access.klinik.co.uk/contact/nightingale-valley-practice/

If you are unsure whether these vaccinations have been missed, please check the vaccination section on your NHS App.

Meningitis B vaccination: Patients aged over 2 years would need to arrange this vaccination privately. We do not provide the MenB vaccine at the surgery for patients over 2 years old.

The MenB vaccine was added to the NHS immunisation schedule for infants in 2015, helping to protect babies and young children in the UK.

📣 High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) Group Consultation — You’re Invited

Nightingale Valley Practice is offering a friendly group consultation session for patients living with high blood pressure.

This is a relaxed, supportive appointment where a small group of patients meet with our clinician to learn, ask questions, and share experiences — all while still receiving personalised care.

đź’ˇ What are the benefits?
• Better understanding of your blood pressure and what the numbers mean
• Practical tips on diet, salt, weight, alcohol, sleep and exercise
• Medication advice and common side-effects explained clearly
• Learn from questions others ask (you’ll think of things you hadn’t considered!)
• More time with the clinician than a standard appointment
• Support and motivation from people in a similar situation

🔒 Confidentiality matters — you can share as much or as little as you wish, and individual concerns can still be discussed privately.

Many patients find group consultations reassuring, informative and empowering — and they often leave feeling more confident about managing their health.

📞 Interested in attending?-Please complete our Patient Queries section on our website and one of our team will be in touch.
