The gentle application and unusual approach of The Bowen Technique can surprise new clients.
Bowen is a Musculo-skeletal therapy originating in Australia during the 1950's.
Having it's roots in Osteopathy, it focuses on relieving tension in muscles, tendons and fascia using small cross fibre moves.
Throughout our life patterns of movement, as a consequence of injury, work activity or sport, the body can compensate for an unbalanced state.
This serves us well for survival, however is not great for pain.
Working with the body's natural skin receptors, gently freeing stuck tissue, enhancing drainage and blood flow Bowen enables healthier tissue, builds resilience and flexibility encouraging recovery from injury.
Moreover Bowen has deeper effects on the Nervous System - largely enhancing the parasympathetic system damping down our fight and flight stress response leaving a feeling of deep relaxation.
I have been practising The Bowen Technique since 2009 and have based my clinic The Bristol Natural Health Service since 2012. I combine Bowen with other soft tissue techniques including The Emmett Technique and Spinal Reflex Techniques.
