Health is both an inside out and an outside in process. I’ve learned so much about the body and how to take care of it from the outside, but am still constantly humbled by the impact that our habitual thoughts and the information that we allow to influence us has.
I’ve learned that I need to meditate. I need to spend time in nature. I need to reflect. I need to watch the kinds of things I pay attention to. And that these things are as essential as how much water I’m drinking or my daily step count.
The message being that our mental and energetic intake is as important as anything else.

It’s no secret that I love a long walk, but walking is so much more than physical exercise. The human body’s capacity for walking is an innate behaviour and is crucial to our continued health.
Walking improves overall mood, reduces anxiety and increases cognitive function by enhancing the release of endorphins and increasing blood flow to the brain. It reduces the risk of developing neurodegenerative disorders.
Regular walking increases life expectancy and estimates say can add anywhere between 5 and 11 years to your lifespan. Even more than that though, I personally find it helps with mindfulness. Allowing me to reflect and process my experiences, letting them compost back into usable material, little fresh seedlings of lesson and wisdom.
There is no task or formula or exercise or recipe more integral to human than health than walking and although it is not the entire picture, it’s one of the easiest and most pleasant ways to do yourself some good.

Been pondering a lot the concept of receptivity and purposefully trying to slow down and listen to the person, the situation, the lesson that’s right in front of us.
So often, we meet experience with our own stories, our own preconceived notions and our own ideas about how things are right at the forefront. These things are obviously useful operationally, but can block us to truly seeing and receiving the blessings that are right in front of us.
I’m trying to ask myself, how can I back off? How can I drop my own story and truly just be present and receptive to what life is offering right now? How can I listen to those I disagree with as intently as to those with whom I agree?
It’s more difficult than ever in an age ripe with algorithms and confirmation biases. However, when we do allow ourselves to truly be in touch with this receptive nature, for me at least, what reveals itself is truly magical.
