Colbourne Clinic Emily uses a holistic approach to provide bespoke coaching with the aim to improve each clients overall health and wellbeing.

This may include: nutrition advice, injury rehab, flexibility/mobility training, home workout plans & lifestyle tools. In 2021 I graduated with a BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy Degree at The University of Southampton. I am also qualified as a Gym Instructor, Personal Trainer and Nutritional Advisor. I offer Physiotherapy, rehabilitation, massage, 1:1 personal training and small exercise groups with exclusive use of a private gym based in Abbots Leigh, Bristol. My holistic approach to treatment combined with my strength and conditioning background and my passion for restoring function and minimizing pain enables me to enhance the quality of life, health and wellbeing of my patients. I am keen to work with all abilities and ages. I have specific experience in rehabilitation and working with both sports players and young disabled adults. I am passionate about understanding what really matters to you, whether it's restoring function, minimizing pain, improving diet, inch loss, weight loss or greater fitness. I will help you achieve your goals by building a personal plan and support structure to ensure you get where you want to be. Everyone starts from a different place with different goals and expectations. Your journey with me will be unique, and will be based on your lifestyle, your ambitions and capabilities. What you want to achieve will shape how we plan our time together, whether that is for a specific event, or to improve your cardio or movement. Making changes is not just about what happens when we work together. I will help you to make little changes in your lifestyle that will enable you to maintain the goals you are working so hard to achieve.

‘Done is better than perfect’

and

‘Waiting for perfect is never as smart as making progress’

This past week the thought of training has been unpleasant. Normally training most days is just part of life for me and I don’t think anything of it. This week I’ve thought about cancelling before nearly every session! This is okay, we all have phases where we lose interest in training or just don’t feel up to it.

So, this week, I cancelled one session and did some journaling instead because that felt more important to me. I was late to another session because I’d had a chaotic morning but I made it and got it done and felt better for it! I swapped one session for a long walk in the sunshine because the thought of being inside when it was such glorious weather made me sad. I pushed myself to get to this spin class and once I was 10 minutes in, I felt so good and so proud of myself - I was so pleased I’d hyped myself up to go😃

These are all examples of getting it done and ignoring the strive for perfection. I knew I wouldn’t get perfection this week but by getting it done in a way that felt good for me I ended up with multiple completed training sessions and feeling positive about next week’s training. The old me would have written off the whole week after cancelling that first class because perfect was the most important thing to me at the time.

The key to mastering this is being your own hype girl (or person)! Knowing when to push yourself to get to that session, knowing when to swap for something else and knowing when to stop completely and find some quiet with a book to recharge 🥰

Being in it for the long run for yourself is the most important thing within all of this. Movement is for life so make sure you enjoy it and keep it as an enjoyable activity - never a punishment!

Finally, learn to be your own hype girl 🎉🏄‍♀️🥰

Hey 👋🏼 I’m home from my travels and here are my thoughts 💭☺️

I’ve been outside my comfort zone every day on this trip 🇨🇷

My mental, physical and emotional strength has been tested throughout…

I have been away from home surrounded by strangers 24/7 with no alone time

There has been many language barrier issues

I have been carrying out physical challenges everyday (in 33 degrees heat) including: volcano hikes, huge zip lines from one mountain to another, repelling, rock climbing, surfing, water jumping

I have learnt so much talking to people from all walks of life and I have discovered more about what is most important to me

I have kept some routine with doing yoga 🧘🏻‍♀️ most days and strength training several times a week (swipe to see me doing my sunset single leg deadlifts😅)

So many times this trip I have thought to myself, ‘I’m so pleased I rehabilitated my injury, I’m so grateful I make it to all those early morning training classes’. The consistency with my training has meant I have been so physically strong and confident to attack all these challenges… this is exactly why I train, so that I am STRONG FOR LIFE 😃

Strong to carry myself up the volcano hike 🌋

Strong to balance on a surf board 🏄‍♀️

Strong to tread water for a long time enabling me to see incredible sea life 🤩

STRONG TO HAVE THE CHOICE TO DO ANYTHING WE WOULD LIKE TO DO 🎉

With my work, it is never about what you look like… I believe the way you look should be the least interesting thing about us all - everything else is so much more important🤩

I have also noticed that my increased physical strength has increased my confidence, mental and emotional strength… simply by being able to prove to myself how capable I really am ☺️

It’s usually a matter of when to seek help to rehabilitate a nagging ni**le rather than if you should.

That ni**le will push you to a point where you are fed up and not prepared to put up with it anymore.

Why not get help before you reach despair?

You’ll improve your quality of life sooner and the recovery will likely be easier and quicker.

Within a few sessions with me you can significantly improve your function, reduce your pain, improve your quality of life and be happier as a result 😃

Happiness is the goal for all that I do, we are working towards the same goal together ⭐️

When life gets all a bit too much, go and find a tree 🦥

Now I’m being serious, there is so much science to back up that being outside, being in nature, moving your body and grounding yourself reduces overwhelm, stress, worries and improves energy ✨

This is self care, this is health, this is just as important as going to that exercise class or dentist appointment

Without reducing out cortisol levels (stress hormone) we cannot reduce inflammation in the body and improve our overall health as well as heal injuries

We need to be looking at our bodies as a whole, if you isolate one injury you would like to rehabilitate without addressing lifestyle, work, mental health, nutrition… it will be a loosing battle

Of course this is what I am passionate about in my work, looking at the whole of you and helping you take steps to improve all aspects of your health and wellbeing, in turn improving your day to day quality of life and preventing future health concerns ⭐️

How are you feeling moving into 2025?

I’ve brought in my little helper to demonstrate how you may be feeling at the start of a new year 🐕‍🦺

Are you jumping full of hope, motivation & positivity?
Are you jumping with fear and feeling out of control?
Are you feeling confused about where to start?
Are you exhausted?

Maybe you’re feeling a combination of these feelings or something different entirely?

The new year doesn’t need to be a time for radical changes, punishing yourself and setting unrealistic goals.

How about taking some time to reflect on 2024 and all the things you were able to experience and all the emotions you were able to feel. Perhaps make a journal entry to help you visualise all that you moved through in 2024.

Let’s look back on the year before we move forward, we can let the learning from this past year inform our goals for 2025.

Try to avoid ‘destination addiction’ - ‘A preoccupation with the idea that happiness is somewhere else. We suffer, literally, from the pursuit of happiness. We are always on the run, on the move, and on the go. Our goal is not to enjoy the day, it is to get through the day’.

Here’s some of my own reflections on 2024 to give you some starting ideas 💡

⭐️I rehabilitated an injury that was affecting my every day life and now I’m able to live pain free 99% of the time

⭐️I have established a strong nutrition routine which is now second nature to me, this removes the decision making of what to buy and what meals to prepare

⭐️I have had so much fun moving my body: walking, swimming, dancing and so much more

⭐️I have prioritised time for self care and mindfulness, increasing my time for reading, yoga and walking

I can help you with all of your wellness goals. Whether it’s getting yourself out of pain, learning to like your body, learning how to move your body, experiencing relaxation through massage or establishing good nutrition - I can start you off and be there to keep you on track as a friendly constant in 2025 to make sure you are not forgotten in the chaos of life ☺️

I am so proud to have completed this trek and to have been one of the first to finish 🥳

Starting at 2am on Saturday morning and finishing at 8:30am after 6.5 hours of treking in mostly just the light of our head torches
