Congratulations to Harvey at F H Halliday & Son Ltd. for winning the 2025 Amateur Championship in the Caterham 310R Championships. Out of the 20 races the 23-year-old competed in during the year, he achieved a whopping 18 podiums - 11 first places and seven second.

We know that Hallidays used to be carpenters in the 1800s before we became funeral directors.

We recently had the honour of being joined by this beautiful vintage fire engine, which carried a much-loved retired firefighter to his final resting place. 🚒❤️ It was a touching tribute to a life dedicated to service and bravery.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came together to make this possible.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Well done to everyone who took part in the Leap of Faith last Saturday, a charity abseil organised by Portishead Church of England to support Christian Aid's Middle East Crisis Appeal and Clevedon District Foodbank.

Wow, what an incredible Portishead Carnival 🎉🎡🎪

A huge well done to everyone who helped make it such a spectacular day, the energy, creativity, and community spirit were truly something special!

We were honoured to be involved this year by sponsoring St Peter's Church of England Primary School float, themed around The Greatest Showman, and what a show it was! The students and staff pulled off a dazzling display full of colour, music, and joy. 🌟🎭🎪

We have a history of serving our community by helping families to arrange funerals in Portishead and the surrounding area since 1880.

At F. H. Halliday we hold traditional values, whilst realising the importance of choice and have a modern view about funeral services. We offer a truly personal bespoke service and help to families at such a difficult time, aiming to make the arranging of a funeral as stress free and easy as possible, taking care of all the arrangements in accordance with your wishes.

F.H. Halliday are managed by owners Glyn and Helen Lawrence who, along with their team are available for any help or advice that may be required, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In the 1800’s the Halliday family were carpenters, general house maintenance, painters and decorators employing 8 people based at our current address on the High Street in Portishead. One day someone came into the woodworking shop and asked if it was possible to make a coffin, it was from that time that Frederick Halliday established the business as a funeral directors.

Records show that from 1880 F H Halliday and Son started carrying out full funeral services, providing horse drawn hearses and horse drawn mourning coaches, along with all the other provisions that you would expect from a funeral director. We still hold records written in long hand on every funeral, dating back to 1880, these are held in archives which are regularly used to look up past funeral arrangements.

Frederick Halliday passed the business to his son William (Bill) and in the late 1950’s his nephew Edward (Eddie) Lawrence came to join him along with his wife Kitty Lawrence. Eddie worked in the carpentry workshop and Kitty ran the office and decorating business.

Eddie’s son Glyn, joined the company after leaving school at the age of 17 and also joined Eddie working in the carpentry workshop, learning all aspects of the trade from decorating to carpentry to bearing, then to becoming the funeral director.

In 1966 Bill Halliday retired and a limited company was then formed, owned by the Lawrence family.
