A new child poverty action plan for the West of England has been launched, with a major focus on widening access to childcare for families across Bristol and the region.

The plan includes expanding Early Years provision, creating a co-operative childcare staff bank and backing schemes already helping parents balance work and family life.

Launched during a visit to a new school-based nursery in Staple Hill, the plan has been praised by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown as nationally significant.

Pizzarova on Gloucester Road hosted a free pizza-making workshop, giving students the chance to learn new skills, have fun and enjoy the pizzas they made themselves.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated to the Young Carers Club appeal – an amazing £440 was raised to support more activities next year.

Huge congratulations to St Brendan's Sixth Form College students Emma, Sophia and Sophie, who have all been recognised at this year’s Clifton LitFest Young Adult Writing Competition 🎉

Emma took first place in the Year 12–13 Non-Fiction and Allegory category, while Sophia and Sophie were named runners-up in the Fiction category. Their excerpts were even read aloud by actor Paul McGann at the prize-giving ceremony!

English teacher Hetty Brown praised the individuality and creativity of their work — from dystopian storytelling to powerful metaphor and lyrical prose.

A fantastic achievement for all three talented young writers 👏📚

🎄 Three Bristol & B&NES primary schools unite in song! 🎶

Pupils from Cameley CEVC Primary in Temple Cloud, Bristol, Marksbury CofE Primary and St Mary’s CofE Primary have joined forces to create a beautiful virtual Christmas film – each school recording their own version of Midnight before combining them into one joyful performance.

With rising transport costs and rural locations making it tricky to gather in person, the schools — all part of The Partnership Trust — found a brilliant way to celebrate together, sharing the true meaning of Christmas through music.

Headteachers, pupils and families have embraced the project, and the final film is now live for everyone to enjoy on The Partnership Trust website and YouTube channel.

A lovely reminder that community spirit always finds a way ✨
