Let's bust a huge myth for !
MYTH: "If I'm registered as an organ donor, doctors won't try as hard to save my life."
FACT: This is 100% false. A doctor's number one priority is ALWAYS to save the life of the patient in front of them. The medical team trying to save your life is completely separate from the transplant team.
Organ donation is only considered after every effort has been made to save a patient's life, and death has been declared.

Share this to your story. You might change someone's mind and help save lives.

A new week begins with a vital mission. The demand for ethnically matched blood for patients with sickle cell is rising, but donations from the Black community are not keeping pace.
This isn't just a statistic; it's about our brothers, sisters, and children whose treatment depends on a match that is most likely to come from someone of the same heritage.
Your blood is uniquely powerful. This August, can we count on you to be a donor? One hour of your time could mean a lifetime for someone else.

Find your nearest donation centre and book your appointment today.

In this episode of the Rebel With A Cause podcast, host Kezi speaks with Nafisat, a 24-year-old advocate for blood donation. Nafisat shares her personal experiences with blood donation in Nigeria, highlighting both positive and negative aspects. She mentions her initial struggles with low blood pressure that prevented her from donating and describes her eventual successful donation experiences, including both whole blood and plasma donations. Nafisat emphasizes the importance of vital checks before donation, and the challenges faced due to insufficient pre-donation tests and the generally poor conditions in some Nigerian healthcare facilities. She also discusses the role of organizations like the Nigerian Red Cross in promoting blood donation and calls for better government oversight and public awareness to improve the system. The conversation delves into cultural misconceptions about blood donation and suggests greater publicity and education to encourage voluntary blood donations outside of emergency situations.

It's our last of July! Let's clear up a common question: "Can I donate if I have high blood pressure?"
The answer is... it depends, but often YES! If your blood pressure is well-managed with medication and within the required limits on the day of donation, you can typically still donate blood and register as an organ donor.
Don't rule yourself out! Always check the official guidelines or speak with staff at the donation centre.

A new week to be a lifesaver. Let's talk about the urgent need for Black blood donors.
Every day, the NHS needs 250 blood donations just to treat people with sickle cell. Sickle cell is the fastest-growing genetic condition in the UK, and it disproportionately affects Black people.
The best blood for treatment comes from donors of the same ethnic background. The need is constant, and the need is urgent. You can donate blood every 16 weeks.

Have you donated blood before? If it's been more than 16 weeks, it's time to book your next appointment.
