Blue Monday… or a chance to check in?
You’ve probably seen today labelled as the most depressing day of the year. But I’d love to gently change that narrative.
January can feel heavy - darker mornings, tired routines, the pressure to be “back on it” – and that’s real.
But giving one Monday a gloomy label can sometimes make us feel worse, not better.
What if instead, today was simply a pause point? A chance to notice how you’re actually feeling. A reminder to be kind to your energy. An opportunity to make one small choice that supports you – not transforms you.
That might look like:
• Getting outside for daylight
• Choosing a nourishing lunch
• Moving your body gently
• Saying no to something unnecessary
• Going to bed earlier tonight
Mental wellbeing isn’t built on big gestures. It’s shaped by small, consistent acts of self-care, especially on ordinary days.
So if today feels hard, that’s okay.
And if it doesn’t, that’s okay too.
Let’s make Blue Monday less about doom, and more about compassion, balance, and support
(Photo of this one as it’s hard to stay ‘blue’ when you get up to this happy face each day! And no, he should not be on the back of the sofa 😅)
