Your strongest immunity isn’t built when you’re already sick — it’s built now (ideally throughout the year, but now is better than later).

As the seasons shift, Ayurveda teaches us to prepare our bodies before winter arrives. 🍂

💡 Think warm, grounding foods, daily routines, and most importantly, supporting agni and reducing ama 🔥

✨ Even if you catch a bug, strong resiliency helps you bounce back faster!

If you’re ever lost, look to the trees and follow their lead; this applies in all seasons🌿
~~Winter ❄️ a period of stillness and rest, waiting for the warmth and light to spark a new cycle. This is a beautiful time of year that I have grown to love and stop running away from (hello, 5 year summer🫠). Succumb to the dark nights, sleep longer, cocoon, ready to unfurl…
~~Spring 🌸 flowers blossoming, vitality renews, nature awakens from its slumber and colours explode.
In many cultures around the world the new year doesn’t begin until start of spring. This is the perfect time to harness the new energy and kick off those new year intentions✨.
~~Summer🌳the trees are full in all their splendour, busy growing, expanding and absorbing and harnessing the sun’s energy.
The best time of year for your projects💪🏼
~~Autumn🍂shedding its leaves ready for hibernation, the landscape ablaze with its technicolour display.
The biggest lesson here is to let go to make room for new beginnings🍃
Do you love or hate winter?❄️

❌Myth❌: *Ayurvedic food has to be Indian*.not true! We can use the knowledge that Ayurveda gives us, but adapt it to the cuisine we’re used to.
You want to ensure you’re getting all six tastes in there, and that it’s either tridoshic-friendly, or tailored to your dosha depending on if you have an imbalance.
This it is an example of a quick lunch or dinner that leaves my tastebuds and tummy satisfied 😋
Cut a sweet potato in half, lightly coat in olive oil or ghee and roast for 45 mins or until fully cooked.
Wash and dry chickpeas (or a legume of your choice), dress in oil & spices. I chose coriander, cumin, cinnamon and a bit of paprika. Put them in the same roasting tray for 15 mins at the end.
To make the dressing: mix 2 tbsps of tahini with juice of half a lime, 1 crushed garlic clove or garlic granules, some Himalayan rock salt, and thin with water. Mix well.
Cook a seasonal green veg of your choice to go on the side (mine is purple sprouting broccoli from the allotment 🥦)!
Let’s look at the tastes:
Sweet ~ the potato (good for vata)
Sour ~ lime
Salty ~ salt
Bitter ~ broccoli and mustard leaves (good for kapha & pitta)
Astringent ~ chickpeas (good for kapha & pitta)
Pungent ~ garlic & spices

Ayurveda teaches us that we are nature, so while the plants and animals hibernate we, too, should slow down our pace.
I used to really struggle in winter❄️, but over the years of living Ayurveda and tuning into the seasons I’ve grown to have a deep reverence for this time of year. To honour going inwards and giving my body the rest it needs.✨
Enjoy winter for a little longer before the world wakes up!

Most people from the UK will recognise this plant because of its propensity to sting you with its tiny, spiky hairs…but this plant should be revered, not feared!
From March-around now, the tender nettle tops are full of goodness, swipe left to see the nutritional components of this wonder plant.
If you dare to pick some be sure to take gloves and scissors, and only pick the tops of the stems (approx the first 6-8 leaves). The wonderful part about picking nettles is two more stems will grow once you’ve picked the tops (swipe left to see)!
I love to cook with nettles, particularly nettle and potato soup, but I mostly dry the leaves to keep for teas or overnight infusions ~ (check out the blog post in links for a nettle soup recipe)!
An overnight infusion allows all of the beneficial, water-soluble vitamins and minerals to leech into the water and provide a nutritious and earthy drink the next day.
Some of the benefits from consuming nettles include: helping to modulate histamine response in allergies, supports blood sugar regulation, relief for arthritic pain, plus they contain many vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Have you ever tried nettles? Comment below🌿

~°Homemade mouthwash°~

Throughout history, cloves have been revered for their medicinal purposes, but they really stand out when used for oral hygiene because of their antiseptic and antibacterial properties.
If you happen to have a toothache, the main compound eugenol has strong analgesic properties and could help to relieve some of the pain!
Cloves combined with cinnamon and peppermint create a powerful mixture to fight off bad breath and keep your gums healthy as they reduce the bacteria that cause gum disease and promote a healthy oral biome.

Recipe:
1 cup of water
1 tsp whole cloves
1 tsp ground cinnamon and/or cinnamon stick
4 drops peppermint essential oil (ideally one that can be ingested; I use DoTerra)
Boil the water, take it off the heat and add all ingredients. Leave to infuse for 10-15 minutes
Strain the mixture, pour into a glass bottle/jar and allow to cool.

《《 ▪J O Y▪ 》》
It made me so content this day picking wild flowers in the light summer rain. The act of getting outside, walking a new path, touching the plants, gathering them and arranging them when I got home. It was a little break from the day and a way to reconnect to nature which fills me with such joy.
Global pandemic aside, a lot of us in this age live in a fast-paced environment, often jumping from one thing to the next, our lives filled with busy-ness and not much time to just be, to let life unfold.
I find for myself, many of the most joyful moments in life can be found in the seemingly mundane, slow days. But these are times when we are able to fully relax and be present.
Can you take some time out of your day, if only 5 minutes, to do something that lights you up and brings you back to the present moment?
Some ideas:
🌿Walk outside and notice 5 new things you hadn't paid attention to before
💃🏽Blast some music and dance, or sing along
🕯Have a candlelit bath
💆🏽‍♀️Give yourself a massage
🤸‍♂️Stretch your body
☕Make a hot drink and enjoy it without looking at a screen
🙇‍♀️Sit with your hand on your belly and breathe deeply
🖌Paint or sketch something

Pure joy captured in a photo🌹.
On the beach, with one of my besties (who is behind the camera) dancing around in the ocean!
In many ways life couldn't feel further from this right now, but I believe it's our choice to experience joy regardless of our external environment.
It might be subtler and harder to grasp on certain days. It might be hiding in the crevices and feel like it's not there at all; but even a slither is somewhere to be found and cherished.
I hope you are still finding joy in some small way despite the world's current state.
For me, dancing in my room is not quite the same but it does the job😊 💜

~AIR~
Air moves in ether (space) and is otherwise known as vāyu
¤dry, light, clear, mobile
¤formless, but can be perceived by touch
It manifests in the mind as movement of thoughts, desire and will which gives us joy and excitement but similarly to ether it can cause fear, anxiety, and insecurity.
In the body it shows up as the movement of muscles, the expansion and contraction of the lungs, pulsing of the heart, motions of the digestive system and the entire movements of the central nervous system are governed by air.
Its sensory organ is the skin which is linked to the sense of touch. This is why an oil massage can be particularly balancing and calming if Vata is haywire!
