Getting active does not have to mean pushing yourself. Gentle stretching can help you stay mobile and feel more comfortable, even from a chair or bed.

Try pointing and flexing your toes, lifting one leg at a time, or slowly straightening and bending your knees. A gentle stretch through the back while seated can also help ease stiffness.

Little movements, done regularly, can make a real difference. And if you or a loved one would like a bit of extra support, we’re here for a chat 💚

Please don't hesitate to reach out for a friendly chat at 0117 3742400 or visit homeinstead.co.uk/bristol-east.

It’s Nutrition and Hydration Week, highlighting how important regular meals and fluids are.

For people living with dementia, staying hydrated can help prevent increased confusion and other complications linked to dehydration. 🍎

When families worry that a loved one is not eating well, they often focus on what is on the plate.

What gets overlooked is how much effort comes before that. Deciding what to eat, remembering what is needed and making choices in the shop can quietly start to feel like too much.

That is why support with planning and shopping can make such a difference. Having someone alongside you helps take the pressure off decisions, restores routine and makes food feel manageable again. Often, eating better follows naturally when the mental load is shared.

To find out how we support everyday routines like planning, shopping and mealtimes in Bristol East, call 0117 3742400 or visit homeinstead.co.uk/bristol-east.

There are still a lot of assumptions about care, and many families tell us these myths are what stop them from starting a conversation sooner.

Care does not have to mean losing independence.
It is not only for later stages.
And it does not have to feel rushed or clinical.

When care is done well, it fits around everyday life. It can be companionship led, flexible and focused on helping people keep doing the things that matter to them. Sometimes, clearing up a few myths is all it takes to see support in a very different way.

Which of these surprised you most?

For many people, retirement brings freedom, but it can also quietly take away structure, routine and the feeling of being relied upon. That sense of purpose, knowing someone is expecting you and that your time matters, is something many people miss more than they anticipated.

Care can be a great fit at this stage of life, not because of spare time, but because it offers meaningful work without the pressure of a traditional full time role. Regular visits, real relationships and the chance to make a difference, while still keeping life balanced and flexible.

If you are exploring a new chapter and would like to find out more about becoming a Care Professional in Bristol East, call 0117 3742400 or visit homeinstead.co.uk/bristol-east.

Many families notice that their loved one seems to cope better on days when someone visits. It is not always about loneliness in the emotional sense. Often, it is about having someone there to help get the day started, talk things through and take the pressure off.

Deciding what to eat, when to go out, what needs doing and what can wait all takes energy. Having company can gently lift that weight. A conversation, a shared plan or a bit of encouragement can make everyday tasks feel manageable again and help the day move forward more easily.
