You find slowing down hard. You sit down to rest but then feel totally overwhelmed and annoyed.

Sometimes it doesn't feel safe to slow down, nevermind rest. If you feel stressed or have high cortisol, slowing down or resting can feel impossible.

Your body might feel twitchy.

You might be mentally beating yourself up.

Try some movement first. Your nervous system might need to work through the feelings.

Shake or jump, stamp your feet, flash your hands.

Resting can feel near impossible when your nervous system is highly activated.

Let yourself FEEL and MOVE before trying to rest (even if it feels messy - especially when it feels messy).

When you feel less activated you send a signal to your nervous system that it's now SAFE for you to slow down.

Resting becomes a possibility.

Go easy, getting to know your nervous system is a journey!

NEW CLASS INCOMING....

And I'm back to sharing movement, east Bristol folks!

I'll be sharing a flow class, sometimes spicy and fiery, sometimes a little soft and somatic. Getting curious about how it is to be in this mind-body we have!

Wednesdays 7-8pm at the totally gorgeous Fresh Dance & Arts Centre in greenbank, Easton.

You can find me here from Wednesday 21st May β˜€οΈ

Join me for a mid week exploration? I don't know about you, but I find I'm often craving a mid-week shake up for my nervous system πŸŒ€

Shaking up the body, shaking up the breath, shaking out the mind gunk!

And the lighter, brighter evenings can be the perfect place to explore this.

Curiosity led, we'll be exploring what it really means to move intuitively and practice feeling into that.

Breath led, always! Because how much do we really consciously notice our breath throughout most of the day? How we breathe, even in a short class, can shift mood and energy.

Anyone is welcome πŸ’–

Sometimes your nervous system can't tell the difference between REAL or IMAGINED danger.

This is why we feel fear, tension or panic in our bodies when we WORRY about the future, or negatively ruminate about what happened in the past.

Your brain doesn't realise it's an imagined danger. It responds the same way as if there was a real threat.

Imagined danger could be worrying about something that hasn't happened (perhaps an upcoming meeting at work), or having an irrational fear or phobia about something specific.

The good news is that we can rewire our brain's response to imagined danger.

We have neuroplasticity, which means we have the power to change how we feel, think or behave.

The power of hypnotherapy for tackling a fear or phobia is incredible!!

Here is a recent review from a wonderful client on her experience of reducing the power a phobia had over her and taking back control πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

It's pretty phenomenal stuff; hypnotherapy for fear or phobias can be brief and effective.

Sometimes all it takes is 3 sessions ✨

How does it work?

We work together to help you to firstly understand (and then tackle) the fear response in the brain, we work to rationalise your responses and help you to reframe how you'd LIKE to feel, or behave.

Instead of being driven by fear, avoidance or phobic responses, you'll end up feeling much more in control of the fear and able to move forwards with your life.

Well...it's been a hot minute Instagram! My doors are open once again for therapy and yoga clients!

I've got to tell you, I have absolutely loved my social media hiatus over this last year on mat leave. Recommend!! More on that later....

For now, I'm over the moon to open my doors, to welcome my therapy clients (psychotherapy, hypnotherapy or yoga) back into my cosy little private therapy space in Easton. Slide left to get a peek πŸ‘€

✨ I have a few ongoing slots left available on Wednesdays and Thursdays (but spaces are filling up quickly)

✨ Free initial consultation calls available- they last about 20-30 minutes and are a great chance to find out how we could work together, ask any questions and get a sense of me (so important to find the right therapist for you)

It's amazing to be back, and I can't wait to work with you - whether you were an existing client or a new one!

Tuesdays are gooooooood days!! Know why?

'Cos my vinyasa class is starting up again from Tuesday 23 January πŸ˜‰πŸ₯³πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

Come along, it'll be so good to see you there again- whether regulars or newcomers!

Having a regular space to practice yoga, connect with your body and breath is so bloody important (maybe even more so in the depths of winter). I really realise this, having been off with a new baba. Having a space to simply show up and BE.

And that's what my Tuesday class is all about πŸ’—

Freedom in movement, checking in with yourself, space to be.

Where and when?

🌿Tuesdays ~ 6-7pm ~ At Easton community centre

Class passes available, lots of options- Link in bio to book

DM for discounted rates if money's an issue- please don't let that stop you! My inbox is open...

Therapy really can be life changing πŸ’₯ here are some words shared from a recent client of mine on the whole experience.... πŸ’“

It felt important to me to share some recent wonderful feedback. Why?

Predominantly to recognise the immense power of having therapy - whatever modality of therapy that most resonates with you - to help you connect to your own inner compass 🧭

And partly, as I often encourage my clients to do- it's wildly important to share the good things, the things that you're proud of, that light you up ✨

No..... Matter...... How..... Big or Small.

By focusing on and sharing your successes (no matter the scale- big or tiny achievements, glimmers of awareness, penny-dropping moments of realisation, whatever.....), you physiologically shift your brain's chemistry.

And I'm a mega nerd about how incredible that is. About how incredible neuroplasticity is. How you can always change and shift your focus...... Always.

Our brains literally respond to the positive neurotransmitter activity - to those feelings of motivation and pride, and we're encouraged to do more if it!
... How might it feel to make some space to celebrate your successes? however they look! It's the most nourishing fooooooood for your incredible brain 😁🧠✨

Neck deep in the third trimester now, these days are a waiting game... And a time for eating record amounts of cake! A slightly weird, liminal limbo.
Between one chapter and another.....
Relinquishing control πŸƒ(a lesson that never really goes away, does it?!!)

✨

Next week is my final working week as a therapist before my 6 months maternity leave.

As my business draws to a pause, I've been struck today by how empowering it has been to see the incredible, tough, inner work each and every one of my clients has been persevering with πŸ™Œ
....and to see my clients move through the sometimes tricky, confusing realisations into a softer place of self- compassion, awareness and reflection, and towards a place of love is, quite frankly, 🀯πŸ”₯!

Huge respect x

Rest is NOT a lack of ambition. Rest allows your body and mind to HEAL.
This is something I'm really passionate about πŸ’₯

Mental rest, emotional rest, social rest, sensory rest, physical rest. Your body knows. πŸ’›

You deserve rest, and this world will not give it to you. Our world doesn't value it, it's too ego- driven.

So we need to carve out the time ourselves. Know this- it's not lazy or unambitious to want rest.

It takes time and a little practice to create space for this- and there can be room in your day for every single person to take a little break. Even 15 mins 😊

My personal go to? Yoga nidra recordings always. Or a short guided meditation. Or a little movement.

No rest can mean very little resilience.

And resilience shows our ability to recover from stress or pressures, it's not about having reserves to push harder and harder and harder.

πŸ’›

Much love x

So lets just put it out there. The phrase self-compassion can feel a bit buzz wordy right?!

A phrase like "self care" which we can roll eyes at and think "hmm yeah, but what does it even mean?!" I get it. Especially when there's so much 'wellness' terminology saturation on socials.

Buuuuuut, self compassion is also much, much more than a buzz word or sound bite.

Compassion is something worth digging around in, I believe.

And it can be explored through the body or through thought-work and therapy.

🌺

Whether you're a complete beginner or lifelong practitioner of yoga/somatics/breath work/meditation....your body work practice is an incredible place to begin.

Self compassion was a theme we lightly explored in my yoga class a couple of weeks ago. I say lightly because it's deep work, nobody really develops self-compassion overnight!

For me, yoga is about ALLOWING.

Allowing yourself to just be.

In all your glory or grumpiness.

Learning to hold space for YOURSELF. However you show up.

Regardless of mood, emotions, energy levels, the impact of your day, relationships..... The list goes on.

It's also.... And this one's big.... about developing your capacity to meet and deepen your connection with yourself. To open up to love and accept yourself.

And this is long-term work.

❀️

It's here that we can plant seeds of what self-compassion can feel like, to get curious about it, to explore compassion in an embodied way.

Training to be a yoga teacher - offering affordable classes

Hi everyone!

I’m using this page to promote my practice yoga classes, while I progress with my yoga teacher training. Currently I’m studying my 200hour teaching qualification in hatha yoga at Bristol School of Yoga, aiming to be completed by September 2020. Exciting stuff.

Come and join me on the mat! I’m running some affordable yoga classes while I continue with my training. Please DM me if you would like to find out more, or are interested in dropping in to a class here and there. Classes will be hatha style; with a mindful and playful flow, we’ll build strength and flexibility, with an equal focus on breath awareness and deep relaxation. Suitable for complete beginners through to improvers.

I’ll be based in St Werburghs Community Centre (see dates on my page).
