THE INDEPENDENT NURSE
After working in the NHS for 11 years as a registered Nurse, I developed my passion for providing a patient centred experience and evidenced based care. Setting up as an independent nurse allows me to release the time to provide both of those values to the highest standards. I have experience as a Sister in the NHS both in hospital and the community and have taught other nurs

es as a Clinical Practice Facilitator. Using my experience in quality and improvement, alongside my passion for best practice to give each patient in my care, a safe, holistic and positive experience with time to care, I created the Independent Nurse. I provide high quality nursing care in our central Bristol clinic and your home. With experience as a district nurse and providing hospital at home, I can tailor your care needs to you. 🩸 Phlebotomy Prep for Student Nurses! 💉
Learning phlebotomy as a student nurse can feel overwhelming at first, but with the right mindset and practice, you’ll gain confidence in no time! Here are some key tips that have helped me succeed:
✅ Know Your Anatomy – Understanding veins (like the median cubital, cephalic, and basilic) is crucial for a successful draw. The vein you choose should feel springy, round, and full.
✅ Perfect Your Technique – A steady hand and smooth motion make all the difference. Position the needle as if an airplane is landing—this helps prevent piercing through the vein.
✅ Patient Comfort Matters – Communicate, reassure, and be gentle. Your approach can significantly reduce patient anxiety.
✅ Follow Safety & Infection Control – Always wear gloves, dispose of sharps properly, and follow your facility’s protocols to ensure safety for both you and your patients.
✅ Practice, Practice, Practice! – The more hands-on experience you get, the more confident and skilled you’ll become.
Phlebotomy is a vital skill that will serve you throughout your nursing career. Keep learning, stay patient, and trust the process!

This morning in the clinic we have been busy washing and dressing lower limb wounds 🩹

Our patient has suffered from a dermatological condition for 2 years without making progress. Following an initial consultation without our wound care specialist nurses, we were able to correctly assess the cause of the wound and liaise with the Patient's GP to ensure a correct referral was made to the right department. One week later our Patient has seen the specialist, has an accurate, diagnosis and treatment plan and is much more comfortable. 😁

If you have a non-healing wound and feel like you're getting nowhere, why not book in to see our nurses for an assessment and see if we can get your wound healing!

At the Independent Nurse we are CQC regulated ⭐️

All healthcare providers in the UK must be registered with the CQC to be able to provide healthcare. 🩺💊💉

We work hard to ensure we are working to the gold standard of care as our benchmark of practice. 🏅

This means you can be sure that all our processes, procedures and treatments are safe for you to receive, given in line with best practice and follow strict protocols. ✅

We have seen a rise of unregistered practitioners offering treatments without being registered with CQC. These include vitamin Injections, IV Infusions and blood tests. 😱

For your own safety please ensure you only receive health treatments from CQC registered professionals.

At The Independent Nurse we offer a range of health and wellness treatments and procedures. Check out our website to see if we can support you today.
