We work hard to get to know every resident and their life history as so much of our care is based around life experiences and how we can use these as tools to provide excellent care. Our 'outstanding' rated care home, located in Soundwell, Bristol, offers 24/7 nursing care for older people with specific nursing needs, particularly those living with dementia. We are a Level 1 Dementia Care Matters Butterfly Service home, meaning we are achieving the highest of a recognised national standard in dementia care, providing good quality of life through our person and relationship focused dementia care.

This morning we visited Winter Stream Farm for an all you can eat fry up and this afternoon we visited Fonthill & Lakeside Garden Centre looking at the autumn displays, plants and water features, not forgetting the homemade cake and a cuppa, yum!
Anne said “There’s just something about a garden centre, I love them”

More fun with the VR headset today
Kamal & Noirin went to Egypt both said it’s just like the real thing, Robin went into space and didn’t want to come back to earth he loved it, David said the rescue dog centre was amazing & Bob swam with whales said it was really beautiful, Pat enjoyed the winter amimals in Europe & Sally visited the Australian outback and couldn’t stop talking about it & Jean loved the visit to the Great Barrier Reef all in all a busy day 🌍

August was another fantastic month with so many events & activities- most of them in the sunshine - boat trips, a wedding, Abba day, a farewell baby party & a cook retiring & Nurse moving to Australia, a cake sale to raise £1000 for breast cancer research & a train ride & another visit from the fantastic Million memories ponies were just a few to mention - As well as a huge group walk in the park to raise awareness of living well with dementia 🥰

What a lovely summer we have had, so many events & trips outside in the fresh air - we won’t let the rain & coldness stop that - here are just a few photos from May- July , beach parties, park walks, dancing tots every single one in the garden, pirate parties, Male voice choir, summer fayre, wind bands & lots of singers ( including the famous Eddie Wheeler) , Egyptian dancers & cultural celebrations, baby group & book club, Donkeys & Dogs, ponies & pizza, ice-creams & wine 🍷 sports days & it’s a knock out , gardening club & boccia just about any reason to get out in the sunshine ☀️ August & Sept to follow 🤣

Sensory & relaxation sessions & Nameste are essential part of activities at Deerhurst occurring at least five times weekly: using all your senses and feeling human connection are key to expressing emotions & aiding sleep - we also have sensory boxes to stimulate taste smell hearing & touch, relaxing smells & sounds & fun guessing what they are

🚤 Deerhurst Care Home's second annual boat trip of 2025!

Yesterday, 30 of the Deerhurst Family set sail on The Willow Trust boat for another fantastic day on the water. The sun shone, they enjoyed a delicious picnic, sang along to their favourite tunes, and even took turns steering the boat while soaking up the scenery! ☀️

A huge thank you to the skipper and volunteers who make this day possible, and a special shoutout to Mike from Kingswood Community Transport and Bobbie from ALD Automotives for driving our minibuses and helping us get there safely!

Our second annual boat trip for 2025 ⛴️
Today, 30 of us set sail on The Willow Trust boat, as always we had the best day.
The weather was kind to us, we had a yummy picnic and a singalong. Most of us took a turn in steering the boat whilst enjoying the scenery and a little sunshine ☀️

💍 After 42 years together, Valerie (73) and Patrick (78) finally said “I do” at Brunelcare’s Deerhurst Care Home in Bristol, where Patrick now lives.

The heartwarming ceremony took place on Deerhurst’s very own garden ‘beach’, with bridesmaids made up of four care staff and even a fellow resident, plus two flower girls – a true community celebration. 🌸

Patrick, a former bricklayer, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2020 and moved into Deerhurst last year. Worried his health might affect their bond, he asked Valerie to marry him – and just three weeks later, their special day became a reality. 💖

Valerie said: “I’m so happy to have married Patrick, albeit 42 years later. We had a fantastic day and we’re so grateful to the staff at Deerhurst for making it possible.”

Huge thanks to the Deerhurst team who went above and beyond to make the day magical – decorating, cooking, dressing residents, and creating memories the couple and their family will cherish forever. ✨

This is a beautiful reminder that love has no limits – and joy can thrive, even in the face of illness. 💕

Deerhurst had another fantastic afternoon with the Piratitude band – sunshine, rum & raisin ice cream, and plenty of singalong shanty songs kept everyone smiling. 🎶✨ Even Alfie the dog joined in the fun! 🐾💛

🌿✨ Garden Celebration at Brunelcare's Glastonbury Care Home 2025 ✨🌿

After 3 months of hard work, 15 staff gardeners, 6 families, 8 businesses, and countless generous donations, our garden transformation is finally complete – and what a celebration it was! 💚

From rebuilding raised beds and planting new shrubs 🌱 to restoring benches, creating a new patio, and even commissioning a beautiful butterfly wood carving 🦋 – the community truly came together.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated time, plants, equipment, and funds. Special thanks to the families who gifted benches, tables, and features in memory of loved ones – creating a space filled with beauty, meaning, and joy. 💐

We couldn’t have done it without you all – here’s to many happy days in our new garden! 🌞🎶🌸

🇮🇳✨ Indian Independence Day at our Little Heath Care Home ✨🇮🇳

What an incredible day we had celebrating Indian Independence Day at Little Heath! 🎉

Residents were treated to the vibrant sounds of traditional Indian drummers, while our amazing staff wowed everyone with performances and dancing to share their culture. 💃🕺

Many of our residents said they had never experienced a day like it and are already asking when we can do it all again! 🥰

🌻Our Glastonbury Summer Garden Party🌻

At the end of July Glastonbury Care Home Care Home held a summer garden party to celebrate the completion of their gardening project! There was a tasty BBQ on the day and free ice creams all-round, displayed on an ice cream bicycle donated by Greyman Engineering, as well as musical entertainment for everyone to enjoy🎶

The gardening project was completed in July after 3 months of hard work from 15 staff gardeners, 6 families, 8 businesses, and generous donations of plants and equipment. The refresh included new vegetable beds, bench renovations, planting of new shrubs and plants, a butterfly wood carving, and even the building of a brand-new bandstand which was used by Wells City Band for their performance at the party.

This work has completely transformed Glastonbury's garden space and they had a fantastic time celebrating its unveiling on the sunny afternoon! A huge well done to everyone who has worked on and donated to the garden to make it an enjoyable space for our residents and their families🤗

Our kitchen team pulled out all the stops with a delicious BBQ spread and treats, and the amazing Nick kept everyone smiling and singing with two hours of live entertainment! 🎤👏
