I thought that losing weight would make me happier.
So I tracked everything.
I swapped healthy foods I genuinely enjoyed for lower‑calorie alternatives.
I trained hard, even on days when my energy was nowhere to be found.
I kept going - determined and focussed.
And yes, the weight came off.
People commented.
My clothes fit differently.
From the outside, it looked like I was doing everything “right.”
But behind the scenes, my body was struggling.
My mood swung all over the place. I started having panic attacks
My skin broke out like I was back in my teens.
I felt wired, but exhausted. Unable to sleep and needing naps in the day.
I had one week every month where I felt like myself, and the rest… I just didn’t.
I didn’t realise it at the time, but I was in the early stages of perimenopause. My nervous system was already under pressure, my hormones were shifting, and instead of supporting my body through it, I was giving it less and expecting more.
And that’s the part we don’t talk about enough.
Weight loss *can* happen when you cut calories - of course it can. But in midlife, you can also lose your stability, your resilience, your emotional bandwidth and your sense of yourself if you’re not fuelling properly.
For me, it wasn’t that the approach “didn’t work.”
It’s that it came at a cost that led me to burnout.
And that’s why I do what I do now.
It’s why I talk about nourishment over depletion.
It’s why I help women rebuild their energy, not drain it.
It’s why I want you to understand what your body is doing beneath the surface, so you’re not fighting it - you’re working *with* it.
Because if you’re pushing harder, eating less, and feeling worse, your body isn’t being difficult.
It’s protecting you.
And once you know how to support it properly, everything becomes easier, calmer, and far more sustainable long-term.
If you’re ready for a sustainable strategy to really Thrive over 40 - drop me a message and let me know what you’re struggling with.
Much love
Nancy
