Muscle Series – Part 2: How Muscles Work & How to Keep Them Strong 💪

Muscles do much more than help us move—they support posture, protect joints, and even help with breathing and circulation. But how do they actually work?

👉 How muscles work
Muscles contract and relax thanks to signals from the nervous system. When your brain sends a signal, muscle fibers shorten (contract), creating movement. When they relax, the muscle lengthens again. This constant coordination allows us to walk, lift, push, pull, and stabilize our bodies throughout the day.

👉 How to keep muscles healthy and strong
To keep your muscles working at their best, they need:

Regular movement – strength training, functional exercises, and daily activity
Proper nutrition – especially enough protein, vitamins, and minerals
Recovery – rest days, good sleep, and hydration
Stretching & mobility – to maintain flexibility and prevent injuries

Consistency matters more than intensity. You don’t need a gym—your body weight is often enough.

👉Simple home exercises for strong, healthy muscles
Here are easy, effective exercises you can do at home, without equipment:

Squats – strengthen legs and glutes, support overall muscle balance

Push-ups (classic or on knees) – great for chest, shoulders, arms, and core

Plank – builds core strength and muscle endurance

Wall push-ups – a beginner-friendly option for chest and shoulders

Arm circles – activate and strengthen shoulder muscles (deltoids)

Chair dips – work chest, shoulders, and triceps

Stretching after exercise – helps muscles recover and stay flexible

Just 15–20 minutes a few times a week can make a real difference.

🔹 Deltoids (shoulders)
The deltoids are the rounded muscles covering your shoulders. They have three parts (front, side, and back) and are essential for lifting your arms, pushing, pulling, and stabilizing the shoulder joint.

🔹 Chest muscles (pectorals)
The chest muscles, mainly the pectoralis major and minor, play a key role in pushing movements—like pushing a door, doing push-ups, or lifting objects. They also support breathing mechanics and shoulder stability.

New Year, New Series: Let’s Talk About Muscles!

I’m starting the new year with a brand-new series of posts all about muscles 🏋️‍♀️
Let’s start with the basics.

👉What are muscles?
Muscles are soft tissues in the body that have the ability to contract and relax. Thanks to them, we can move, maintain posture, breathe, and even keep our heart beating.

👉 Types of muscles:
There are three main types of muscles in the human body:

1️⃣ Skeletal muscles – attached to bones and responsible for voluntary movements like walking, lifting, or exercising.
2️⃣ Smooth muscles – found in internal organs (such as the stomach, intestines, and blood vessels). They work automatically to keep our body functioning.
3️⃣ Cardiac muscle – found only in the heart and responsible for pumping blood throughout the body.

👉What are muscles responsible for?
✔ Movement and physical activity
✔ Maintaining posture and stability
✔ Protecting internal organs
✔ Generating heat and regulating body temperature
✔ Vital functions like breathing and circulation
