To improve awareness of thyroid conditions and advocate for our clients, we're sharing this link:

Sophie Getliff is undertaking research for her PhD at the University of Derby, exploring patient-centred care in non-cancerous thyroid disorders.

Her research is an online survey which looks into patient experiences of primary care in relation to non-cancerous thyroid disorders. It is anonymous. She has gained ethical approval from her university. Data collection is ongoing until Jan/Feb 2026.

We have clarified with Sophie that this part of her research is targeting primary care practitioners from an NHS perspective rather than private, but her future research hopes to look into the differences between public and private health.

As International Thyroid Awareness Week 2025 comes to an end, we wanted to give a more personalised perspective on this year's theme of Early Detection and Treatment using AI.

Most of our team started their thyroid journey long before artificial intelligence became mainstream. With the use of wearables and mobile phone apps, AI has now become a useful tool used within the team to support them with managing thyroid conditions.

However, many of us feel our personal thyroid journeys would have benefitted from earlier detection and treatment. One of the team, for example, has evidence of thyroid issues back in 2000, but a doctor didn't take her concerns and symptoms seriously until 2013. It then took another 2 years to receive an official diagnosis, only through sheer determination and advocating for herself through private testing and treatment options.

Such stories are echoed through many within the thyroid community. Our team is here to support people with thyroid conditions, raise awareness, and advocate for those whose voices struggle to be heard above the issues limiting optimal management of thyroid conditions in this country and beyond.

Today is World Thyroid Day 2025 and every year on May 25th World Thyroid Day marks the beginning of International Thyroid Awareness Week.

This year's theme is Early Detection and Treatment using AI.

The emphasis is on early detection and timely treatment of thyroid conditions. This focus is particularly important as millions worldwide remain unaware they have a thyroid disorder.

By encouraging regular check-ups and recognising early signs, this year’s theme helps you take control of your health before complications arise. It’s a reassuring message: with better awareness and access to care, you can avoid delays in diagnosis and live a fuller, healthier life with the right support.
