Pulmonary Fibrosis (Stiff Lung)
Pulmonary (lung) fibrosis (scarring) describes a lung disease where the lungs become progressively stiffer and smaller, due to scar tissue formation, making it difficult to breathe on exertion, resulting in low oxygen levels in the blood.
Symptoms can be, shortness of breath during exercise, walking uphill or on stairs, tiredness, chest pain, racing heartbeat and swelling of legs and ankles, are all part of the development of pulmonary fibrosis.
In addition, oxygen starvation to the body affects thinking, vision, digestion, organ efficiency and the bodies ability to heal itself.
As the lungs shrink, the ribs can stiffen and tighten around the lungs, making it difficult to take a deep breath and expand the lungs, thus depriving the body systems of the oxygen it needs to remain healthy.
It is vital that you follow your doctor's advice and treatment plan, but there are other things you can do to help yourself.
At The Haven Healing Centre - Cheddar I offer a physical treatment that may help you breathe more efficiently, which can improve body function and energy levels.
Relaxing the inter-costal muscles of the rib cage, helps to restore the efficiency of the rib cage. Tapping of the sternum sends a shock wave into the lungs, that helps to dislodge debris and clear the lungs. A simple breathing technique will help to expand the lungs into the newly enlarged rib cage and improve oxygen intake.
It's important to understand that increasing oxygen intake is the ONLY way to reverse some of the damage caused by pulmonary fibrosis.
If you would like to see if this treatment can help you, please call The Haven Healing Centre - Cheddar for an appointment.
