I hope the summer is treating you well and you've managed to spend some time in the sun and with loved ones.

As the landscape of yoga has changed over the past year and we continue to grow as a business, I'm merging my two companies, Bristol City Yoga and Bristol School of Yoga.

After 15 years of running the studio I'm focusing on our specialist online courses like Yoga in Depth, Yoga for Anxiety and Teacher Training so I can carry on providing students with in-depth teaching, training & support. My Monday & Wednesday classes will carry on as usual.

The studio space is available for our present & past teachers to continue to run or start new classes if they would like to and we're excited to welcome more classes and teachers into the studio in the future!

If you haven't used your credit by Friday 9th July, we'll contact you directly within the next week with your options.

BCY online courses will soon be run by Bristol School of Yoga, so if you're enrolled in one of them, the only change you'll see is the name.

Thanks so much for all your years of support and community and to all the amazing teachers and team over the years. I'm excited to share this new chapter with you all!

Love,

Laura & BCY

How we could approach our Mental Health 🌿⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"Improving our health & mental health is never a quick fix, it’s a continuing process that we can integrate to be a part of our lives. Above all, it’s a process of discovering what we need, what might work for us and how that changes over time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The answer to the question ‘what works’ will shift over time. If we approach the journey of our mental and physical health as exactly that - a journey - we can meet each different stretch of the road with curiosity, non-judgement and receive and respond to it as it is 🛣⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sometimes it can be helpful to take stock of where we’re at. It might feel like one step forwards & several backwards at first, but being conscious of the chance to be kind to ourselves can be a massive leap forwards, even if it takes a while to take effect. Over time, with practice, the steps forward become easier & more frequent and we learn how to navigate the terrain. The journey might not become less difficult but perhaps it will feel simpler, or more easeful to navigate. 🧭"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Thich Nhat Hanh (a zen buddhist & meditation master) separates out our suffering from happiness - we often think the two are like a seesaw, as one goes up the other inevitably comes down. What if we accepted that suffering is just one aspect of the human experience. The Buddha described suffering as inevitable - so having accepted that inevitability is it possible to also be content, to also find joy, alongside the suffering?

“The seed of suffering in you may be strong, but don't wait until you have no more suffering before allowing yourself to be happy.”

― Thich Nhat Hanh, The Heart of the Buddha's Teaching: Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, and Liberation

Support your babies development with Yoga!

Yoga, songs and movement which helps to relieve common ailments such as colic, wind and constipation. Baby Yoga also develops muscle tone, coordination, mind and body development and promotes deep sleep - which will also promote a little more sleep for you 😅

A reflection for your morning cuppa from one of teachers, the zen buddhist & mindfulness master Thich Naht Hanh which we hope will see you into your week 🫖

Tea is an act complete in its simplicity.
When I drink tea, there is only me and the tea.
The rest of the world dissolves.
There are no worries about the future.
No dwelling on past mistakes.
Tea is simple: loose-leaf tea, hot pure water, a cup.
I inhale the scent, tiny delicate pieces of the tea floating above the cup.
I drink the tea, the essence of the leaves becoming a part of me.
I am informed by the tea, changed.
This is the act of life, in one pure moment, and in this act the truth of the world suddenly becomes revealed: all the complexity, pain, drama of life is a pretence, invented in our minds for no good purpose.
There is only the tea, and me, converging.

- Thich Naht Hanh

We wish you a peaceful & gentle week ahead 🙏
