An insight into the world of Chinese medicine.

Last week we posted about the fire element energy being either in excess or deficiency in the body and what kind of symptoms we might see when that happens…

This post is about a third energetic state, where the fire element is both deficient and excess within us, and it creates symptoms of what we call "false heat" in the body.

These are mainly heat signs, but are not full in nature, like those seen in a state of excess fire.

Symptoms might include flushed cheeks (not the whole face), night sweats, mouth sores, heat in palms of the hands & soles of the feet, hot flushes,
fatigue, difficulty sleeping, late afternoon fevers, big emotions, or feeling exhausted easily.

False fire is a deficiency condition from a depletion of Yin - the cooling, moisturising, calm, quiet energy in the body.

So when we identify these symptoms in ourselves or in our patients, we can choose specific acupuncture points, and / or offer lifestyle guidance to help us return to balance once more.

Most people don’t know this.

As we celebrate 75 years of the NHS, we are proud to see traditional acupuncture being used in mainstream healthcare settings, integrated with other care provision, for the benefit of patients. We have some fantastic examples of our members making a real difference in NHS settings and are excited about our ‘integrated projects’ work with primary care networks.

We thank everyone who is working hard to improve the recognition of acupuncture as an effective healthcare treatment.

🌿 Each element within the five element cycle has its own key resonances.

🌱 We are now in the wood element season of spring - can you see the blossom on the trees, all the green buds and shoots growing?

🌳 This is the strong birthing and growth energy of spring and the wood element!

💚 No wonder the associated colour for this element is green - its deepening everywhere you look, right?!

🟢 These associations are often used diagnostically in the clinic room too, we can see this green tint on a patient's face as well!

🌲 This can help acupuncturists determine the state of balance within a person's five element cycle.

YIN to YANG ☯️
Have you noticed how there is more light seeping into our winter days. We are moving from winter into spring albeit slowly.

You might have a little more energy or feel more upbeat. Spring cleaning isn’t such a chore! It’s wonderful how the natural sunlight makes us feel.🔆🌅☀️

Go outside if you can, and embrace the sunshine, you will feel so much happier and healthier.

As we move forward into spring 🌳🎋 we can stay up later, and rise earlier, eat less heavy foods, and eat more greens. The spring season connects to the liver in Chinese medicine. Growth, rebirth and a movement upwards signifies nature coming back to life after the winter hibernation.

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR year of the rabbit. Peace prosperity and Longevity that’s what the rabbit symbolises. Let’s hope for a more reflective
Time ahead.

Happy lunar new year! 2023 is the year of the water rabbit 🌑 🐇 🌊

Commonly known as Chinese new year, today marks the start of the festival of spring celebrated in many Asian countries on the first new moon of the year.

Although the season surrounding us still feels wintery, this celebration signifies the end of the coldest and darkest winter days. Now is when we begin to feel a subtle hint of spring in the air and the first buds are seen. The days are lengthening and the temperature is rising as we begin to gently transition into the more yang aspect of the year.

Traditional celebrations include:
🧹'Sweeping the dust' to bid farewell to the old and welcome the new
🏮Decorating to keep evil away and encourage blessings, longevity & health
🧧Gift giving (especially money to children)
🍜Feasting with the whole family

How will you be celebrating?
