Good job, John!

In our culture a loss of up to 50% of the height of the discs as we age from our twenties to our fifties is considered normal. It follows that the herniations, nerve pain, and arthritic change that accompanies this chronic degeneration of our discs is also not seen as unusual. Pain and reduced abili...

Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃 🍁

This Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for the gift of healthy movement and natural alignment. Functional, pain-free bodies are a result of understanding and restoring key postural elements, like the J-spine.

As we prepare delicious meals in our kitchens, let’s remember to practice mindful posture: keep your back elongated, your neck tall and aligned, and your inner corset gently engaged. Every little movement counts!

Take a moment to enjoy this beautiful scene by Doris Lee shared by Gokhale Method Teacher Aurelia, captured at the Art Institute of Chicago. What do you notice about the bending, alignment, and posture in this joyful Thanksgiving dinner preparation?

Unfortunately, our body’s natural intelligence can be overwritten by damaging posture inputs. In contemporary industrial and hi-tech societies, we have poor role models, and succumb easily to passing fashions in clothes and furniture, and trends about what exercises are healthy. We also get well-intentioned but misguided advice about standing, sitting, and bending from health professionals. All of which creates the perfect posture storm. Most of us get blown off course and remodeled into distorted shapes.

Maintaining healthy standing posture came more naturally to earlier generations (1920s, left) who had better role models than we have today (2020s, right). Well-designed furniture, and more cause to use their inner corset muscles in daily labor, also helped. Photos taken by Troy for Delineator magazine

This is Asher. He plays goalie for a club team. Look at his beautiful head/neck placement. Also he is tall standing with his shoulders rolled back. Stunning posture for an 8 year old. His mama knows the Gokhale Method! Loving my grandson.
