To mark World Cancer Day, our Cancer Services team have been in the atrium speaking to patients and staff about the support available to people affected by cancer and the new National Cancer Plan, which was launched today.

Meanwhile, Sally from our NGS Macmillan Wellbeing Centre was at Hengrove Leisure Centre, where she shared how the centre can support those living with and beyond cancer with members of the public, including participants from a community cancer exercise class.

We’re excited to share that North Bristol NHS Trust is taking part in the Hunterian Museum’s national exhibition Insight: Portraits of Women in Surgery, celebrating the inspiring women working in surgery across the NHS.

Our own Miss Anusha Edwards, Consultant Renal Transplant and Endocrine Surgeon, will be featured in the exhibition through a portrait captured in her clinical setting here at NBT by Rebecca Sellick and Dawn White from our Medical Photography team.

The exhibition runs from February to April 2026 at the Royal College of Surgeons in London and will also be available to view online.

The project showcases the skill and leadership of women surgeons across the NHS and we’re delighted to see Anusha representing our Trust.💙

Have you spotted the new addition to the front of The Princess Royal Bristol Surgical Centre?

Its official name was recently added to the front of the building, and we think it looks fantastic!

The Princess Royal Bristol Surgical Centre is now proudly displaying its official name, and we think it looks great!

A joint project between University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust and North Bristol NHS Trust to create additional capacity for planned operations across Bristol, North, Somerset and South Gloucestershire, supported by Bristol, North Somerset & South Gloucestershire ICB, the centre opened to its first patients in August. More than 1,500 patients have now had their surgery at the centre.

Black women in the UK experience significant inequalities in cancer care and outcomes. Too often, their voices are missing from patient feedback, which means services don’t always reflect what matters most to them. We’re inviting Black women who have received cancer care in Bristol or Weston-super-Mare within the last three years to take part in small listening events this February.

These are small, supportive sessions. You don’t have to share anything you don’t want to, you’re very welcome to just listen. A Black woman with lived experience will be present, alongside a facilitator, and a cancer psychologist will be available for support if needed.

No names or identifying details will be recorded, and taking part will have no connection to your care. You can find out more and sign up here: https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=tVkocm0TkU-bLK_RD7ZUnQK1Vmw7I9FNkMY2yO5kWGRUNk41Ujg2Mk5GUzBKUUtCRlhMVTM0SEFVRC4u&route=shorturl

When a loved one is ready to leave hospital there are a few things family, friends or carers can do to help. 🏠

- Check the date the person is due to come home.

- Arrange for someone to collect them or ask staff if you need help.

- Ensure their home is safe and ready for their return.

- Help with meal preparation.

- Support with medication prompts once the patient is home.

Please talk to the team planning their care if you think you can help in any way, as this may mean they can go home a few days earlier.
