First Aid Steps for Major Bleeding

Apply Pressure: Use a sterile dressing or clean cloth to apply direct pressure to the wound.
Elevate the Limb: If possible, elevate the bleeding limb above heart level to reduce blood flow.
Use a Tourniquet: For severe arterial bleeding that cannot be controlled by pressure alone, apply a tourniquet above the wound (if trained to do so).
Keep the Person Calm and Still: Reduce movement and keep the person as calm as possible to prevent further blood loss.
Seek Emergency Help: Call emergency services immediately for professional medical assistance.

Understanding these differences and recognizing the signs of a major bleed can help provide effective first aid and potentially save a life. For more detailed guidance, always refer to trusted first aid resources and consider taking a certified first aid course.
