Looking after your eye health can be as simple as changing what’s on your plate! 🥗

The right foods can help protect your vision, support eye function, and even reduce the risk of certain sight loss conditions.

Here are a few easy ways to give your eyes a boost through your diet:
🐟 Fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, and tuna are rich in omega-3s, helping to keep eyes hydrated and reduce dryness.
💧 Staying hydrated is just as important, drinking enough water helps keep your eyes comfortable and irritation-free.
🥜 Nutrient-dense snacks like nuts, seeds, and eggs contain lutein and zeaxanthin, which help defend your eyes from damage.
🥬 Leafy greens, like spinach and kale, are packed with antioxidants that support long-term eye health.
🥕 Colourful fruits & veg like carrots, red peppers, and berries are full of beta-carotene and vitamin C to protect your vision.

Be part of finding a new way to treat sight loss. 💙

Millions of people are affected by conditions like diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration, where damage to tiny blood vessels in the eye can lead to vision loss.

While treatments exist, they don’t work for everyone and can come with side effects, leaving many people without effective options.

‘Treat Retinal Disorders’ is exploring Piezo1 - a tiny sensor in our cells that responds to pressure and damage. Early research suggests it may play a key role in how these blood vessels become leaky or grow abnormally, both of which can affect vision. 🔬

By understanding how Piezo1 works, researchers hope to uncover new, more targeted ways to treat these conditions, potentially leading to treatments that are more effective, more precise and with fewer side effects.

Better understanding means better outcomes for the millions living with sight loss! 🙌

Together we can take on eye cancer! 💙

‘Combat Eye Cancer’ is tackling uveal melanoma, a rare but aggressive eye cancer that affects hundreds of people in the UK each year.

Current treatments can be distressing for patients, often involving radiation or even removal of the eye. And if the cancer spreads, options then become limited, with an average survival of under 12 months.

This research is working on a completely new approach, training the body’s own immune system to recognise and attack cancer cells, while leaving healthy tissue untouched.

By targeting a specific marker found only in these cancer cells, this could lead to a more precise, less invasive treatment. In the future, it may even be delivered as something as simple as eye drops, helping to preserve sight and reduce the impact of treatment.

It’s an exciting step towards kinder, more effective care for people facing eye cancer. 🙌

You could be part of saving a child’s sight. 💙

The ‘Help Little Eyes’ research project is focused on a rare but serious form of glaucoma that develops in babies and young children. This can lead to sight loss from a very early age.

Fewer than 1 in 4 families receive a clear genetic diagnosis. That means many are left without answers, without clarity, and without the ability to plan for the future.

This research is using a new, more advanced way of reading our DNA to uncover the hidden genetic causes behind the condition. By finding these missing pieces, we can help more families understand why it happens, access earlier diagnoses, and get the right support and care sooner. 🤝

It can also open the door to more personalised treatments and even new therapies that could reduce or prevent sight loss for these children altogether.
