“There are so many dedicated and passionate researchers working in the area of ophthalmology – all committed to finding out more about eye disease and developing new diagnostics or therapeutics. There is so much innovation in the field – and that makes me hopeful!”

Dr Beth Mills and her team at The University of Edinburgh are currently developing a lateral flow device to screen for a sight-threatening condition called microbial keratitis. This tool, similar to those used to test for coronavirus and pregnancy, could minimise the risk of sight loss by saving precious time to obtain a diagnosis.

We are bringing hope into focus at Sight Research UK. Your donations towards sight-saving research help scientists like Beth turn innovative ideas into real-world solutions. Until 31 December, dive into the spirit of this season with a gift that will be doubled by our partners at Newmedica!

“I support Sight Research UK as, having had 2 cataract operations, I know the difference that eye surgery can make.

With the population living longer, there will be many more people living with impaired vision. Anything which can mitigate this situation is worthy of support.

We have a beautiful world, so let’s see it in sharp focus!”

Every day in the UK, approximately 250 people start to lose their sight. Felicity supports our daily efforts at Sight Research UK to stop this from happening- and you can make a difference too!

This festive season, become part of this journey with us by donating to our ‘Seeing Is Believing’ campaign.

Every donation you make towards sight-saving research will be doubled by our partners at Newmedica, meaning your gift will go twice as far in helping to create a clearer future for those living with sight loss.

There are so many reasons to support sight research. For Mikki, it’s about helping those living with vision loss to maintain autonomy of their own lives.

“I donated to Sight Research UK because sight is something many of us take for granted.

Supporting research that can prevent vision loss means giving people the chance to see their loved ones more clearly, continue to do what they enjoy doing, and keep their independence.”

Stand with Mikki and give a gift of vision today. Your donations will go towards critical future research projects at Sight Research UK to combat sight loss and blindness.

Donate before Tuesday 31 December, to see your donation doubled by our partners at Newmedica!

After being diagnosed with chorioretinopathy (a rare strain of uveitis), Tricia took part in and subsequently won Series 3 of the BBC Race Across the World.

Tricia showed the world her determination and grit. She never let her sight loss hold her back. Now she uses her voice to amplify the importance of vision research.

Last Christmas, Tricia spoke with us at Sight Research UK about her views on supporting charities and donating to eye research.

This December, we are inching ever closer to our goal of bringing hope into focus for those living with sight loss and blindness.

As part of our ‘Seeing is Believing’ festive fundraiser, we’ve set ourselves an ambitious target: to raise at least £20,000 towards vital future research projects that will aim to prevent, diagnose, and ultimately treat eye conditions.

Thanks to you - our supporters- we have so far raised £7,364!

We are (almost) halfway to reaching our goal! Please can you help us get there? Any donation, no matter how big or small, will be matched pound for pound until 31 December thanks to our partners at Newmedica.

Just like the magic of the season, your £10 becomes £20, your £40 becomes £80, and so on...

What are you waiting for? Give a gift of vision today.

Last week, we paid a visit to our neighbours over at Newmedica Bristol to promote our 'Seeing is Believing' festive fundraiser (say hi to our Fundraising Manager, Kerri)!

We met and chatted with many of the lovely patients and staff about our Christmas campaign, where every donation made until 31 December is being matched pound for pound by Newmedica, up to the value of £10,000.

As well as eating a mince pie or two, we were delighted to raise £50.59 on the day, which will go towards vital future sight research projects. And with matched funding, that brings this total to £101.18!

“This is an exciting time, with retinal research moving forward in leaps and bounds. In my career the commonest cause of sight loss in the UK- wet age-related macular degeneration- has gone from untreatable to treatable, with outcomes far better than ever before. Sure, each advance takes appreciable time and research funding, but the pace of change is accelerating."

Professor Timothy Jackson and his team at King's College London are testing an AI computer model that could determine whether patients are at high or low risk of developing diabetic retinopathy. This project, funded by Sight Research UK, could make screening schedules safer, more accurate, and more cost-effective.

You can help us fund sight-saving projects like Professor Jackson’s with a donation this Christmas. Until 31 December, your donation will be DOUBLED by our charity partner, Newmedica.

No matter how big or small, your gifts spark hope for those living with vision loss today, tomorrow, and for the generations to come.

“Sight is an amazing gift. Most of us will experience sight issues at some stage in our lives, some from a very young age.

Lack of good sight is incredibly debilitating, leaving those affected isolated, impacting all areas of living.

Sight Research UK’s work is critical in preventing and developing cures for sight conditions for all generations.”

We’re celebrating International Day of Persons with Disabilities!

So, Imelda, one of our treasured supporters, shares her outlook on sight this festive season.

If you, like Imelda, believe in the power of eye research to shape clearer futures for those living with sight loss, you can give a gift of vision.

Until 31 December, your donation to Sight Research UK will be matched PENNY FOR PENNY! Go twice as far today to give a gift of sight tomorrow:
