Yesterday evening we were delighted to welcome 38 local healthcare professionals, including GPs, physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths, to one of our free education events - a great turnout and a real opportunity to connect with colleagues across the community.
We were pleased to be joined by Mr Sven Putnis, Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon, who delivered an informative and engaging talk on “Navigating the different management options for osteoarthritis.” The session prompted great discussion, and feedback from attendees was extremely positive.
Our free education events are just one of the ways Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital supports the local healthcare community, including our NHS partners, by sharing knowledge, encouraging collaboration and supporting high-quality patient care.

It was great to attend Friday evening’s Bristol Bears Rugby vs Gloucester Rugby match and to have a Nuffield Health presence in the stadium concourse, promoting what our Bristol Hospital and local gyms offer across the city.
Representing the hospital were colleagues from our Theatres, Outpatients and Physiotherapy departments, joined by Hospital Director David, alongside team members from the Nuffield Health and Nuffield Health gyms. Thank you to everyone involved for representing Nuffield Health so brilliantly!
Our very own Nuffy Bear was the star of the show, delivering the match ball onto the pitch before kick‑off to the Bristol Bears’ mascot, Brizzley Bear - a real crowd‑pleaser!
We were also proud to see a fantastic performance from our sponsored Bears player, Tom Jordan, who scored a try and two penalties, helping secure a 53–12 victory for Bristol Bears.
A great evening celebrating sport, community and teamwork. 💚

Today, we are bidding a fond farewell to our Clinical Governance Lead - and former Matron - Nora. 💐

Nora has worked at the Hospital for an incredible 38 years, beginning on the former St Mary's Hospital site, before it was acquired by Nuffield Health. When St Mary's was closed and merged with Nuffield Health's other Bristol site, The Chesterfield, to form the new Bristol Hospital in 2013, Nora moved over, where she served as Ward Manager.

However, this isn't the first time Nora has retired...

Nora retired from that role in 2018, and stayed on as a bank member of the team, but came out of retirement in 2020 to become Hospital Matron! She then retired from that role in 2023, and went part-time, working two days a week as our Clinical Governance Lead.

Third time's a charm, and Nora is adamant this will be her final retirement! 😄

Nora will be missed by everyone who works here. Our current Director of Clinical Services, Eva, said at her presentation this morning that Nora has not only always been dedicated to patient care but also the care of her team, and has been a mentor, role model and friend to many people here during her long nursing career.

Best wishes, Nora, from everyone at the Hospital! If anyone deserves to enjoy their long-awaited retirement, it's you. 🎉💚

What a day on the court! 🏀🔥
A few of members of the Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital team recently joined the sensational Bristol Flyers for an amazing sponsors' basketball tournament, which showcased a wide range of talent, enthusiasm, and some very questionable layups...
The standout moment was being coached by the Flyers themselves. Their coach for the evening was forward Zach Anderson whose skill, energy, and calm encouragement made our guys feel like pros - even if they didn’t always look like them. Zach only recently made the move to join the Flyers as a rookie after his time at George Mason University in the US, bringing his sharp shooting and scoring ability straight into the Bristol lineup.
Events like this really highlight the importance of strong partnerships. They bring people together, build community, and create opportunities to learn from incredibly talented pros like the Flyers’ squad.
Huge thanks to the Bristol Flyers - and especially Coach Zach! - for hosting such an unforgettable event. And of course to the incredible Nuffield team; Tamsyn, Millie, Seran, Chloe, Macy, Katie and Dario. They’re already looking forward to the rematch… once they’ve recovered!
