Having made candles for a few year back in the day, I do know this is true. Choose wisely.
We, as a society, are all starting to be more consciously aware of the chemicals we are putting on our skin, in our bodies and in our homes but I feel there is still not as much awareness for what nasties are candles conceal!
When you buy a candle cheap or not please be aware of what you are purchasing. Once you light that candle all the toxins and chemicals are releasing into your environment and directly to your lungs. You only have to look at your walls where a candle has been to see what your are breathing in.
If a candle smells out a room when burning, then throw it in the bin – it is highly toxic and not for human (or animal) lungs to breathe in.
What to look for when buying a candle:
❌No fragrance oils, these are just artificial aromas riddled with chemicals.
❌No paraffin or soy wax. Coconut or beeswax is best just make sure that it is natural and harvested correctly.
❌Unfortunately there are very few legislations about what is allowed to be said on candles packaging. Aromatherapy and natural can be thrown around very loosely so please do your home work.
Did you know it is legal to call a candle ‘aromatherapy’ by using chemicals to create a match to natural oils. This is all highly toxic because your burning in an enclosed space. You may as well light up a cigarette.
Almost all the lovely candles from all the major candle shops we love, are filling our lungs with more chemicals and toxicity.
Some of them are so toxic, if you have an oil spillage whilst making the candles you have to call environmental health in to deal with it! Almost all of them are toxic to aquatic life which means somewhere along the line, they will get into the water-table, and many are toxic to animals.
By beginning to be more aware of what type of candles we are all consuming it will in turn have a better impact on our health and environment.
