This is a crisis situation for young people & their mental health. (We’re seeing it in adults too)
AI is notoriously dangerous to use as a therapy substitute. It cannot pick up on your state, access your non-verbal communication cues, challenge you, or help you reflect in any other format than telling you what it thinks you want to hear. It is often wrong. And it contains insufficient safeguarding.
Please be safe and consult trained and insured therapists, counsellors & coaches
We’ve written to the UK government about our concerns with AI and mental health.
We think AI platforms and mental health services can work safely together, but we need to take steps to get there. We need to make mental health support quicker and easier to access so people are not needing to fill the gap with AI tools in times of need.
There is an urgent need for stronger safeguards, and shared accountability.
