Meningitis Vaccinations🦠💉
Most young people in the UK should have had the MenACWY vaccine at school in Year 9 or 10. It protects against four types of meningitis - MenA, MenC, MenW and MenY.🛡️
However, you may have missed this vaccine. You can check whether you’ve had it by looking on the NHS App📱. Students who have missed the vaccine remain eligible to receive it up to the age of 25. 🎓
The strain which has caused the current outbreak in Kent is MenB. This vaccine has been offered to babies and infants as part of the childhood immunisation programme since 2015 👶.
Currently, the MenB vaccine is not routinely available to teenagers through the NHS. However, you can still receive the MenB vaccine through travel clinics and some pharmacies💊✈️.
If you’re unsure about your vaccination status, checking the NHS App or speaking with your GP practice or pharmacist is a good first step. 👩⚕️👨⚕️
