Are guided meditation and hypnotic relaxation the same?
Sometimes yes ✅. Sometimes no ❎.

If the purpose is simply for relaxation then they may sound very similar and the positive effects of relaxation will be similar.

A lot of it will depend on the person who is delivering the meditation or relaxation. Some people might focus purely on the scenario and let the relaxation experience come from that alone. Others might add in some positive suggestions to complement the relaxation. In a group situation the suggestions are more likely to be generic that can be relevant to most participants. If it is an individual session they are more likely to be specific to that person.

(Oh and you don't have to sit on the floor with your palms facing up or lie down!)

If you'd like to experience a hypnotic relaxation, join me on Sep 9th. Details at www.sharonstiles.co.uk/newsletter.

Happiness can seem a long way away when you're struggling with things that are going on in your life. Don't try and do it all on your own because you can end up going round and round in circles and not getting any closer to feeling any happier.

Find someone else to help. That may be:
🤗 A friend to talk to
🤗 A friend who can give practical support
🤗 A colleague or someone in your business network
🤗 A relevant professional
🤗 A support group
🤗 A counsellor, coach or hypnotherapist

So many people are willing and happy to help. Some might have been in the same situation themselves, others will have useful knowledge or resources.

If you have a mind block and think I can help you - get in touch.

What better subject to talk about in Happiness Happens Month than laughter? It's a great way to increase the good neurochemicals in your brain that can help improve your mood and reduce pain.

You can get laughter in so many ways -

😂 get together with friends or family (or even strangers) and do something you all enjoy - laughter will naturally happen
😂 laughter yoga - speak to Laughteryogaforjoy
😂 watch or listen to comedy on TV / radio / online / live …

😂 and of course you could visit me for a hypnosis for fun session - either with a few friends or just for you. (£70 for a £60 minute solo session, +£20 per additional person)

What's your best way of having a good laugh?

Happiness isn't always about the big things in life. The more small moments of happiness you can experience the happier you will feel even if those big things don't happen.

Maybe your moments of happiness come from being with people, from activity, learning, art, music, laughter, cooking or helping other people. Whatever they are, recognise them and if you aren't doing them enough think about how you can change that.

A personal example is that I get great pleasure from going out in the countryside and taking photos. During lockdown of course that was taken away from me but I found happiness in going for a walk every day taking photos on my phone of the beautiful nature around me. I was of course fortunate that I live in a city with lots of well attended front gardens but even if that hadn't been the case the sky would still have been there! That walk has continued ever since then and so I have a moment of happiness every single day and another one every time I look back at the photos.

If you don't know what brings you happiness think back to times you remember fondly in the past or try out a few new things and see if you enjoy them. Remember it can be small things, it doesn't have to take a lot of energy or time.

That doesn't take away from the big goals you might have in life, but while you are working towards those add in small moments of happiness to make the journey happier.

It's Happiness Happens Month so I'm going to share a few ways to maintain or increase happiness.

Have balance in your life. Acknowledge the good things as well as the bad ones.

You need to be recognise bad experiences to try and avoid repeating them. But you also need to recognise the good ones, otherwise life becomes too one-sided and you forget that life can be enjoyable.

When you remember an event it's as if it's happening again. If it was a bad experience the emotion you feel about it gets stronger and the event takes on much more significance. The same happens with good experiences but they often don't strengthen as much as the bad ones.

Balance this out by getting a notebook and writing down one good thing that happens every day. (It can be more but just start with one). That helps you focus more on the good side of life and you also have something to remind you about them if you are finding life tough and need a lift.

Is it true that some people can't be hypnotised?

❔ Are your language skills equivalent to a 4 year old?
❔ Can you daydream or get lost in your thoughts?
❔ Do you want to be hypnotised?

✅ If the answer to all 3 of those is YES then you can experience hypnosis.
❎ If the answer to any of those is NO then it is probably still possible but is likely to require a bit more time.

👉👉 Until the end of August I am offering 30 minute hypnosis sessions for £30 (usual cost £45). A good opportunity to experience hypnosis for the first time or to enjoy some relaxation.

A recent study looked at using hypnotherapy for pain management after bowel surgery and the initial findings are positive.

It's always good to hear about hypnosis trials in medical settings but also frustrating. There have been so many of them for such a long time (the British Medical Association supported the use of hypnosis as far back as the 1890s) but despite that it's still very underused and underappreciated.

Hypnosis for pain management can he really effective but for some people it does require some practice to get the full benefit. It doesn't have to be an all or nothing approach. Hypnosis can be used in conjunction with medication too, which means the amount of medication can be reduced, resulting in potentially fewer side effects and dependency.
