When I was growing up I only remember seeing and hearing fireworks on the week around bonfire night and at new year. Now they appear much more as part of celebrations throughout the year. The next few weeks though will be one of the peaks. Some people love them but others dread them and find them really stressful and overwhelming.

😊 3 tips to help reduce firework anxiety:

β€’ Use the wrist acupressure point to help reduce panicky and overwhelming feelings. See the video at https://www.sharonstiles.co.uk/webvideos.php

β€’ Listen with headphones to music you enjoy if you are at a fireworks event

β€’ See a hypnotherapist

I have worked with several people on their fear of fireworks, using a mixture of hypnotherapy, EFT and EMDR. Most of them have found it easier to be around fireworks since their sessions.

One person reported:
❝ I was able to sit in the window, watch and enjoy the fireworks going off all around us and I felt safe, I could control my panic and anxiety and keep it in check to enjoy it. ❞

There are several ways hypnotherapy and EFT can help to address some unwanted menopause symptoms.

Physical:
πŸ”₯ Hot flushes: studies showed 57-74% reduction in frequency after hypnosis
😴 Sleep quality: improved for 50-77% of participants after hypnosis
😬 Cortisol reduction 24% - 43% when using EFT
🩸 Blood pressure: 6-8% reduction after EFT

Emotional:
😐 Mild to moderate depression: reduced from 56.8% to 9.35% when using EFT
😰 Anxiety: improvement on average in 80% of hypnosis study participants

It's Information Overload Day. I think a lot of people find they have information overload every day and it usually has a negative impact. Information overload can have a positive effect though when used in hypnosis. It's something that I often use if someone has a really busy mind and they find it difficult to relax or their mind keeps wandering.

By giving the brain a lot of things to think about it becomes overloaded and eventually being given the option of following simple instructions from the hypnotist to focus on just one thing becomes a welcome relief. Then the session can continue, finding ways to create a positive outcome, whether that's changing a thought, feeling or habit or simply finding relaxation and calmness.

That technique is great for making positive change in a hypnosis session but it can of course have a negative effect in our world of constant information. There are so many conflicting opinions and stories that it's tiring to analyse and try and find the truth in them. So it can be easy to look for one strong voice that seems to offer a simple solution. It seems to me that there are rarely simple solutions to complex problems.

Conflict resolution is usually described as 2 or more parties looking for a constructive solution. But I use hypnosis to help individuals deal with the conflict resolution in their own head.

If one part of your mind wants one thing and another part of your mind wants another then hypnosis could help to bring about that solution.

For instance…
I want to feel more confident ↔ I feel really anxious around people
I want to stop smoking ↔ I like smoking
I want to lose weight ↔ Eating makes me feel better
I hate depending on others for lifts ↔ Driving makes me so nervous
I want to be able to eat different foods ↔ Eating new foods is scary

If there's a conflict going on your head maybe there is a resolution.

In the varied social media world of political commentary you might have seen hypnosis mentioned recently - specifically related to hypnotic breast enlargement and whether or not it is possible.

βœ… 3 studies carried out in the 70s reported that it is possible.

Over 12 weeks participants were either given hypnosis sessions either in person or by audio recording with suggestions for breast growth. Their breasts were measured each week and by the end of the study averaged 1.37 - 2.11 inches larger. Only 1 study did follow up and after 3 months they found there was still 81% increase over the original size.

They were only small studies with no long term follow up but certainly for those women it was a success (oh and according to her article it was for the Sun reporter too).

Is there something that you're not sure if hypnosis can help with? If so ask away.

This year's theme for World Mental Health Day is the mental health impact of exposure to the news.

If you post a lot of news links and info online please read this. People aren't necessarily hiding their head in the sand if they don't want to see uncomfortable and sad new. They just might not have the emotional capacity to add more pain to their lives.

If you are affected by news then this blog might help. I first wrote about this 10 years ago but the advice hasn't really changed:

It's National Smile Day.

Studies show that both smiling and being around smiling people can improve mood and reduce stress because it triggers your brain to release feel-good hormones.

If you struggle to find something to smile about in your life right now, try to connect back to something that has made you smile in the past. Experiences, people, music, comedy? Are there any old photos of you smiling? Sometimes looking at happy photos from the past can be bitter sweet, but focus purely on the sweet part for a while and relive that happiness.

What has made you smile today?

What does hypnosis feel like?
That's a tricky one to answer as it can vary depending on the person and the suggestions given. The experience most people can probably relate to is similar to daydreaming, when your mind drifts between different thoughts.

These are the experiences of some of my clients
β€’ I felt really relaxed
β€’ I was aware of what you said some of the time and not at others
β€’ I was aware of everything you said
β€’ My mind drifted a bit
β€’ It really felt like I was in that place
β€’ My body felt really long
β€’ It felt like I was spinning
β€’ I was arguing with myself
β€’ It felt like it was 10 minutes (actually 45)
β€’ My body felt so heavy
β€’ I felt so light

There is no one "right way" to feel in hypnosis and you might experience it differently at different times.
