Today the intimate relationship between us, our genetics, the land, the plants and animals has been largely lost. The most important aspects of the foods in our diet are their source, nutrient content and how they interact with our unique biochemistry but we have become disconnected from how our foods either work or not for us, what they contain and how they are produced and manufactured. Traditional people have always stayed deeply connected to their environment and natural life cycles and their robust health and knowledge reflects it. Yet in the West, over the past 100 years, we have undergone the biggest migration in the food we eat and how it is produced in the history of mankind. The disconnection is reflected in our health, which can manifest as type II diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, obesity, metabolic syndrome to name a few and there is a
tendency to cover up the degeneration with ever more clever technologies and pharmaceutical drugs. There is a silver lining we do not have to accept or live like this!
