Next up are Simon Brinkworth and Alice Kenny!

Alice and Simon both work for Medical Illustration @ UHBW and are the lovely people that will be taking your photographs at our next event.

I am really excited to be part of the Reframe project and support the team in creating a diverse photographic resource.’ - Alice Kenny

I have learned in recent years of the huge gap in the availability of clinical/medical images of people with dark skin compared to people with lighter skin. This project will play an important role in bridging this gap and I am proud of the small role I will have in this’. - Simon Brinkworth

Let’s talk Chicken Pox!

Just from the images on this post, it is clear that the same condition can look different depending on the patient’s skin tone. This is why it is vital that there is imagery portraying more than the light skin we often see in textbooks. This will help to minimise misdiagnosis, as professionals will be able to identify the key signs of illnesses, no matter who walks in for help 💙

Shocking, right?

This is the reason our project Diverse Images for Healthcare is working to diversify medical imagery, to reduce the levels of incorrect diagnosis and mistreatment. More people need access to appropriate medical training that details a range of skin colours instead of only white-washed imagery - and that is part of what we’re trying to change.

Why have we created REFRAME?

As a team, we want to bring more attention to the lack of diversity within medical imagery. We want to help create more diversity within medical textbooks to minimise misdiagnosis and mistreatment and to help provide a sense of belonging in medical spaces and careers for all.

Thus the creation of our project: Diverse Images for Healthcare 📸
