IBS - so debilitating, inconvenient and embarrassing! It is a comm0n problem and difficult to resolve. However, research done at Manchester Hospital and later confirmed elsewhere whowed that hypnotherapy was the most successful treatment for the condition.

I have found with many clients that hypnotherapy combined with visualisation and other techniques can reduce the incidence of problems considerably and eventually return the client to a normal toilet pattern.

"I fell asleep one the flight back.." Barry, who came with a fear of flying, was one of the rest clients I have seen face to face since the Pandemic. 3 sessions and he fell asleep on the plane!!

Back in business for face to face or FaceTime, Skype or Zoom - all work effectively!!

Some tips for keeping emotionally well during social isolation.
1. Laugh! - watch comedy programmes old or new = Yesterday Channel has some good old ones you can record or ITV3.
2.Smile - even if its artificial, its contagious - on your own? in the mirror.
3. Be creative - gardening, art, writing absorb and distract.
4. Plan - there will be a time when you can get out and about again. Note what you are missing most and arrange/plan/give time to having more of these experiences in the future.
5. Exercise - dance, walk, ride for at least half an hour non-stop and get the endorphins flowing - those good feelings can last for hours!
6. Keep in touch - text e.mail but best of all ring/Skype. And avoid talking about the virus!
7. Look out for streamed broadcasts from theatres, cinemas and museums, you don't have to miss out on all you favourite pastimes
These are just some things I have picked up from years as a therapist.😁

There is so much about the importance of sleep in the media at the moment - I have helped a number of people over the years, and there can be some real fears about sleep that stop people from enjoying a good nights' sleep.

However, one person who has had problems with waking early and not being able to get back to sleep, has proved a challenge over a couple of years now. BUT we have had a breakthrough, and is now sleeping until the alarm goes off.. every night.

I taught him to use EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) in a very simple form, and it worked from night one. EFT has evolved over the years, when I first trained it involved singing to yourself and other things, that my clients just thought completely mad. It was the way they looked at me that told me this was not going to be a success story! So I stopped using it for years.

However, it has been simplified and now just involves tapping the acupuncture meridians whilst using self-talk. I tried it on myself(always the best place to start) and it worked, keeping me alert when driving late at night. That was successful from first attempt, so I tried it on other things and it was successful, so then I introduced it to the guy with th sleep problem.

Several people have come to se me to lose weight, its that time of year. This can be amazingly easy, or incredibly difficult depending on the individual. It is always a challenge. I am often asked "if it s so simple to stop someone from smoking, why isn't as easy to stop people over eating? The answer is quite simple, with smoking you either do or don't, with eating you always have to! Therefore the job is about modifying the when, what and how much al of which can be emotionally charged issues again depending on each individual's circumstances.

Some time ago, whilst driving I heard an interview on "Woman's Hour" with an editor of a Dieting magazine and she was complaining about how difficult it was to write a new diet each month!

If any diet worked she would be out of a job!

Eating is bound up in culturally and emotionally linked associations and habits. Hypnotherapy can help the individual to undo some of these and and if it hits the one memory that makes eating so important to that person, or body shape perhaps, then the problem is solved for life!
