Damilola and Gill are two of the friendly faces behind the tea and coffee rounds on our Inpatient Unit at the Hospice - volunteering their time to bring comfort in a cup to patients and their families.
Gill started volunteering after her partner died at the Hospice. She says, "When we were at the hospice, everyone seemed so gentle, calm and kind. I remember the volunteers coming into the room with a smile on their faces to offer us cups of tea. Volunteering here is my next step on what I call “our journey” - it’s making sure other people get the same experience that we had. "
Damilola says, "Volunteering is one of the most meaningful experiences one can get. Being a volunteer, you don’t have to be a medical professional. You just need an open heart and willingness to help. That genuine spirit of care is what drives you to volunteer. "
A huge thank you to all our volunteers for their care and commitment - they are essential to the work we do at St Peter's.
